A Totally New Kitchen From Floor to Ceiling

Bridgewater was asked to figure out why this home’s floors squeaked. Silencing the floors required restructuring major second-floor support elements – an expensive proposition. So the owner took another look at the kitchen and decided to silence squeaks and improve the kitchen at the same time with a new, open design that would improve traffic flow and enhance the home’s value. The kitchen design called for getting rid of the peninsula, cabinets, stovetop, and soffits that originally separated the kitchen from the dining area. Removing all this required supporting the floor above by tucking a new header beam in the ceiling and re-routing second-floor plumbing and HVAC. The result was a seamless ceiling that flows from entry to dining room to kitchen. The remodel design features 2-inch tongue and groove oak flooring. White antique enamel cabinets – two featuring custom glass fronts – brightened the kitchen. Granite was used for all countertops and the center island. The under mounted stainless steel kitchen sink and food preparation area features an emerald green subway tile backsplash. And the cherry wood center island features a downdraft gas range that vents outdoors. The result: a warm, inviting space for entertaining family and friends.
