1. Plumbing
- The scope of work for the plumbing of the bathroom includes wall cutting for the concealed pipelines, as well as the purchase and installation of the concealed pipelines.
- The plumber will also install all the bathroom fixtures and the sanitaryware.
- On an average, the plumbing labour and material costs start at ₹25,000 per bathroom, depending on the size of the bathroom and the length of the pipelines.
2. Tiling
- Calculate the area of the bathroom floor to calculate the cost of tiling. How? For example, if the bathroom is 9 feet long and 6 feet wide, then the area of the floor tiles will be 54 square feet. Add 5–10 per cent extra tiles for wastage due to tile cutting or breakage.
- For the wall tiles, measure the perimeter (length of all the walls that needs to be tiled minus the door opening). Multiply this length of the wall with the height of the wall that needs to be tiled to get the area of wall tiles for the bathroom.
- The cost of tiling the walls and flooring, including labour and material costs, is approximately ₹160 per square foot, assuming the cost of tiles is around ₹80 per square foot.

- In case you want to install marble instead of tiles, then labour, materials, polishing and cost of marble installation on the floor and walls can cost ₹300 per square foot upwards, where the cost of marble is around ₹120 per square foot.
3. Sanitaryware
There is a diverse selection of sanitaryware available in the market in the mid-range segment, especially in ivory and white.
There is a diverse selection of sanitaryware available in the market in the mid-range segment, especially in ivory and white.
- Floor-mounted commodes start at ₹7500 per piece.
- Wall-mounted commodes start at ₹10,000 per piece. In some bathrooms, like in the image above, one might have to construct a double wall at an additional cost to accommodate the concealed flush.
- Standard-sized, over-counter wash basins can start at ₹8000 per piece from reputed brands such as Hindware.
- Good quality under-counter washbasins start at ₹5000 per piece. However, basic varieties of wash basins are available at ₹800 per piece.
4. Sanitary fixtures
- Keep a budget of at least ₹18,000 for the sanitary fixtures, which include one overhead shower, one hand-shower, one wall mixer (a combination of hot and cold water taps in the shower area), faucets for the washbasin, two floor drains and so on.
- This cost may increase or decrease, depending upon your selection.
5. Electricals
- The labour and material costs for connecting the concealed electrical wiring from the switch board to the other electrical wall or ceiling points can range between ₹150 and ₹200 per running foot of wire used in the bathroom. The cost depends on the thickness of the wires that are used.
- The other electrical costs include the cost of light fixtures, exhaust fan, LED strip lighting for the mirror (optional), switch boards and hot water geyser. Make your selection and get an accurate quotation from your electrical store.
6. Paint
- The ceiling should be painted with emulsion paint in a semi-gloss finish. These finishes have a shiny surface and high resistance to fungal growth, making them suitable for the bathroom, which has high moisture and humidity.
- The cost of painting (material and labour) the ceiling in emulsion paint is approximately ₹35 per square foot, or it might be quoted on a lumpsum basis by the painter if the bathroom is very small.
7. Miscellaneous
- The cost of the bathroom countertop in materials such as marble and granite starts at ₹2500 per running foot. For example, if the bathroom countertop is 4 feet long, then the length of the countertop needs to be multiplied with cost per running foot to derive the cost of the countertop. In this example, the cost of the countertop will be ₹2500 x 4 feet, which comes to ₹10,000.
- The toughened glass partitions for enclosing the shower area, as in this image, start at ₹750 per square foot.
- Keep a budget of ₹5000 for bathroom accessories such as toothbrush holder, towel rods, soap dispenser, hooks, towel ring, toilet-paper holder, and so on.
- The under-sink cabinets can be fabricated at ₹1600 per square foot (onwards). Calculate the square footage of these cabinets by multiplying the length of the cabinet with the height of the cabinet.
- Frameless bathroom mirrors start from ₹1500 (onwards) per piece for a size of 18 x 24 inches. Decorative mirrors (with a wooden border) start at ₹4000 for the same size.
- The cost of standard bathtubs starts at ₹12,500 per piece.
