3D epoxy floors are gaining popularity because of their ability to create specialised three-dimensional flooring effects that cannot be achieved through conventional flooring materials such as stone or porcelain. These floors create fabulous optical illusions – for instance, realistic images of plants, fish, corals and so on that seem to pop out from below. 3D epoxy floors works best in areas like bathrooms and kids’ rooms or can be a incorporated to enhance a certain landscape feature of your home; the possibilities are endless. However, make sure to choose your theme and 3D image wisely so that you do not get bored of it easily.

What is 3D epoxy flooring?
3D epoxy floors are simple two-dimensional floors that incorporate angled images with multiple translucent layers of different materials to get 3D effects. The image is pasted on the floor and finished with a top coat of special transparent epoxy paint.

Note: One needs to select an image according to the theme of the space. The image is then printed on a specialised photo printer according to the size of the floor.

Application:
3D epoxy floors can be applied on concrete surfaces of both indoor and outdoor areas of the home.

What are the cons of 3D epoxy floors?
  • 3D epoxy floors are very costly in comparison to other flooring materials. The cost of 3D epoxy flooring ranges between ₹400 to ₹500 per square foot.
  • These floors can only be installed by skilled and experienced professionals.
  • Epoxy floors require adequate installation time, ranging between three and five days, to allow them to dry and cure completely.

How to install 3D epoxy floors
  • The first step involves surface preparation of the concrete floor so as to achieve a floor that is clean, levelled and free of undulations.
  • The floor surface is thoroughly dried.
  • A layer of self-adhesive self-levelling epoxy primer is applied.
  • A three-dimensional photograph is selected, matched according to the size of the floor and pasted on the floor.
  • The floor is finally treated with a coat of epoxy or polyurethane to get the required image depth and a clear glass-like effect. Special tools are used to level the final surface so that there are no air bubbles present within the floor that might result in a faulty installation.
