Blue is a clear winner
More than half of the respondents (59 percent) said blue is a dominant colour in the children’s bedrooms. Nearly one-third have selected white (31 percent) or grey (30 percent) as a dominant hue. Green and pink come in next (25 percent and 20 percent, respectively). Survey respondents could choose more than one colour.

Costs range widely
As is typical with home projects, the costs for children’s rooms vary widely, depending on the work that is done, the products that are used and the part of the country where the project takes place. Among respondents who had completed a project with children in mind, just under one-third of respondents said they spent $1,000 or less, nearly one-third spent $1,001 to $3,000, and the rest spent $3,001 and up.

The top two child-related challenges in the home cited by survey respondents are keeping things clean (74 percent) and managing clutter (69 percent). Only 8 percent of respondents feel that children’s things in their homes are almost always organised. Twenty-two percent feel that the children’s things are mostly or even completely disorganised.
Other child-related challenges in the home include overflowing laundry (35 percent), tripping or stepping over child-related stuff (30 percent), limited play space (29 percent), and damage to furniture (25 percent), carpeting (24 percent) and walls (22 percent).
