Farm Utility Room
If your utility room is next to the back door, hooks, shelves and cabinets for boots, shoes and coats will be particularly useful. It’s here that you can keep all those outerwear items you don’t need every day and that would usually be cluttering up the hall. They have incorporated a bench with pull-out drawers for shoes. The fronts are handily ventilated to allow the footwear to breathe.
For when we have the rear conservatory: A Sheila Maid airer is often top of people’s utility room wishlists, particularly in traditional country homes, as it provides natural air drying for your laundry while making a vintage style statement. While a utility room is often an ‘out of sight’ space that only you and your family members will see, it’s important that they look good and work for your lifestyle – after all, you’ll be using it most days. This design, for example, has its own distinct character with cabinetry hand-painted a deep charcoal grey and an equally dramatic floor. There is space to hang clothes, ample work surface, as well as a sink, tumble dryer and washing machine.
To include the optimum amount of storage in a utility room, fit shelving behind the sink. This way everything that’s needed for hand washing garments as well as completing other laundry tasks is right at hand. As the items here will be on show, it’s worth sticking to products that look good on display. You can also decant products and essential items such as clothes pegs into jars to keep them neat as well as swap gaudy packaging for something better. If you take this step, make sure everything is safely out of the reach of any little ones who’ll be drawn to them.
A peg rail can be a useful piece of storage in a utility room of any size, providing a place for the hangers on which freshly ironed garments will be placed and from which laundry bags and cleaning brushes can be suspended. If there’s sufficient space below it, it can also be handy for aprons, brooms, or a dustpan and brush. You might want to opt for a version with a shelf above to provide an extra surface for the laundry products that are good looking enough to keep out on display, as well as more decorative items that make the room appealing. This peg shelf is set below wood panelling that ensures the room is in keeping with the rest of the home’s timeless country style. Although a utility room is a largely practical space, it should very much follow the same design themes and aesthetic as the rest of the interior.
It’s worth compiling a list of what you plan to keep in a utility room along with the laundry appliances. Some of what’s likely to be stored in there is sizeable and difficult to put away tidily, so it needs to be accommodated in the design from the start. Lots of people opt for as many cabinets as they can in a utility room for maximum storage but unless the interior is designed for specific items it can end up being wasted space. For example, the tall floor-to-ceiling cabinets are better if designed to include shelving and it’s important to allow for the height of an ironing board/mop and bucket as this often catches people out.
Good information
This! Raised machines NEXT to each other, airing cupboard above...
This is also very nice.
More of that utility room.
Oodles of storage.
Same utility room.
This has some intriguing ideas.
WOW! Here's an idea!
This is just classy looking, and I like the hanging rack above the worktop.
Some very good things to think about.
I can dream about a place to bathe Ruth...
If we were to fill one wall with appliances in the utility room.
Good way to compartmentalize storage.
Love the sink, possibly a smaller model than the kitchen one. And it'd be feasible to do wall- mounted taps?
Oh! That pull-out folding surface!! Like what we'll have in the kitchen!!!
Flat drying drawers!
Wonder if we could work something like this into utility room, or is it best in our office or studio, which ever we end up with...
I like the idea that the washer & dryer are behind doors, especially since they are different colours. Not the sink, though, and having those counters for folding is VERY handy.
That slide-out drying rack is nice. My drying rack would fit on that really well.
Some fun ideas in this room... potential uses in our space... maybe?
I'd worry about how dirty the drawer would get, or wet, if Ruth had water. The other thing is these if these drawers can be 7" high, some cabinet makers sell desk drawers that work perfectly. That's what I used in my kitchen.
I don't think they have enough Wellies!
A lot of potentially good ideas
Just like the tile pattern. Could work in any long or narrow space.
Cabinet placement, stacking washer/dryer, lovely floor, nice view out window. I still have hope...
Now, we COULD do something like this just for us at the back door?
Sink & drainboard
Like the colors, open shelves, floor (what you can see of it), counter.
This is an interesting idea
Love stable floor for units & room for baskets under

The colourway is nice, and it is an entry, like our back entry.
