Practice this on something you can through away - or the back of a door before committing to the entire room....as a faux painter, one of our most popular finishes was done in this manner: - Remove hardware - TSP to remove grease (paint isle at the stores....) Rinse to remove any TSP residue - Light scuff sand - 300 grit - with the grain..... - Vacuum with bristle brush attachment to remove any dust - Apply Sherwin Williams Van Dyke Brown Glaze. Not all stores or markets carry this, but they can get it through their distribution centers. It is a premixed formula of glaze and stain that you apply with a brush and wipe off with a rag soaked in mineral spirits. Leave it heavy and it leans dark, almost black. Wipe of more and it moves more amber or dark brown which looks great with honey oak (as long as you like that combination...). Wear vinyl gloves while applying and wiping, and keep the windows open for fresh air. - Let it dry completely - over night. Spray with two coats of clear. Best of luck with your project! Robert
