ÁPH80. ©Juan Baraja ÁPH80 - 145 to 290 square feet While Spain's Ábaton (Camino Alonso, Carlos Alonso and Ignacio Lechón) cannot boast of a Pritzker Prize, this did not stop them from tackling a similar problem with their design for a transportable house for two people. The abstract appearance of the project comes from its exterior articulation in cement board panels, some of which hinge and slide for windows and doors, opening up the otherwise sealed building
Joshua Nimmo The young Auberty had cherished the southern views from a spot about a half-mile from the ranch's main entrance. Architect Nimmo therefore tucked the house into the north side of a big clearing, opening up the views to the south. From this view, you can see the way the house is split into multiple parts.
Rodney Walker Ojai Remodel After Gray’s father expressed dismay at trying to find someone to design a new home within his budget, Walker, who’d developed building principles rooted in affordability and efficiency since his Case Study House days, agreed to take on the project. “This house was designed to be affordable,” Gray says. “My parents weren’t rich people. You just have to find architects who are creative.”. Midcentury one-story glass exterior in Los Angeles. — Houzz You will never feel leaving the outdoors with this house because it's really open to nature having its clear glass walls and natural colors. This house is very cozy and efficient at the same time. The location is also good for this kind of house. — Camille Rodriguez
Vermont Lake House The south-facing windows are part of the home’s passive solar strategy. The plan affords the family ample indoor and outdoor spaces in which to interact, a sense of privacy and a long-term plan for family care. “You’ll see this kind of multigenerational housing happening more in the future,” says Grutchfield. “Young families need help from grandparents, and, later, grandparents often need help from adult children.”.
Tiny House Living in a tiny home in Minnesota or Vermont is very different from living in a tiny home in Southern California. Before you dive into the tiny-house life, it is important to realistically consider the impact your local climate will have on your lifestyle. In the middle of a long winter in a cold, snowy climate, life in a tiny house can feel very small indeed. Only you know whether it will feel like a treat to stay cozy beside a woodstove and be able to hop on skis right outside the door … or whether you’d feel utterly stir crazy
Tiny House Designer Jessica Helgerson looks at downsizing as a long-term trend. "New-development houses are getting smaller again," she says. "People are interested in living in smaller spaces that are closer to downtowns rather than larger houses where they are dependent on their cars." The designer has already gotten a few requests for the plan for her 540-square-foot home, one of the most popular on Houzz in 2012, which she says is a testament to a shift in the way people are looking at and designing their homes
Sandywoods Farm The facade of this home, set in a neighborhood of affordable artists' housing, respects its rural New England surroundings. Red is a traditional color for agricultural structures, and the area includes working farmland.
Affordable Modern Ranch This affordable housing project marries good modern design with sustainability for less than $100/SF. The home was Earthcraft Certified under Southface Energy Institutes Green Building Program.
Workforce Housing 228 Pendleton Road “Even more ideally, you’ll look at pending sales, because those have been negotiated most recently.” Comparable sales are also a key tool for determining whether you can realistically afford a house of a certain size in a certain neighborhood.
Lake Iosco House exterior Container Home 5 *combination of wood and metal.
shoup residence + office compound It is so crazy what people can do with second hand shipping containers. They take something that is probably going to be thrown away and they make beautiful homes like this one out of them. It seems like a really good way to reduce trash, as well as providing a great structure for a home. ...
Maison Conteneur - Container House Since the floors of the shipping containers have big beams in them, Dubreuil flipped the containers and added even more beams to create more support for the second floor. The shipping container doors became two large windows. The ceiling of the containers became wall paneling in the basement. The floor (the old ceiling) was basically just a thin piece of galvanized steel that moved up and down when Dubreuil walked on it.
Santa Monica House Looks like a 40" ft container. A price for such a size is around $3,00-5,500 depending on how well it looks.
Modern Shipping Container Cabin Project by Studio H:T principal in charge Brad Tomecek (now with Tomecek Studio Architecture). The project is assembled with the structural and weather tight use of shipping containers. The cabin uses one 40’ container and six 20′ containers. The ends will be structurally reinforced and enclosed with additional site built walls and custom fitted high-performance glazing assemblies.

East Sonoma Guest House and Winery: The winery was transformed from a one-story-garage-like building through the addition of a second floor separated into two gable-roofed volumes with a deck between. Aluminum sunshades and corten steel trellis structures add detail to the tall front elevation of the building. The large windows are asymmetrically composed in relation to the existing garage door openings below and are also recessed into the building to help with the shading of the western sun.
