See how there is just paneling over the sink instead of actual cabinets up there? We have ten foot ceilings in our kitchen and we want cabinets all the way to the ceiling. I think with our budget we may have to play a trick on our eyes with some trim work. Jimmy plans to build the soffits over the cabinets and tie it all in together, covering it all up with trim work so the kitchen appears to have cabinetry that goes all the way to the ceiling. I'd love to have actual cabinets up there for storage, but not if the budget won't allow.

table-style island. I like the wood top. I'd be good with doing wood counters on the island and doing something similar to quartz on the perimeter cabinetry.

ship lap on the walls. I like how it is sort of understated in this kitchen but is adding depth to the space.
