David & Carrie Bishop Residence
Sketch of an inglenook-ish room divider that would leave airflow open, have firewood storage, bookshelves, and two guest beds. I have no idea what rooms this should divide, though, lol. I'm guessing it would need to be somewhere in the range of 22 feet long. Ooh....and so in the soffit above, assuming this is around 3 feet wide, it could be open on each side, for books, but the center could be ductwork, with vent for in-line fans above the wood stove, and then it gets piped to.... somewhere, like we had in Missouri.
more inglenook-ish bed potential. love the symmetry again. so, what if this wasn't at the end of the room? wood stove in the middle....some sort of symmetrical mantel thing making framing for bed/benches, but this is at a midpoint in the room. would have to be a pretty wide room. bookshelves forming the ends of the benches, so that they don't butt up against the side walls, leaving room on each side to get past.
Loft in the girls' room wouldn't necessarily have to span the full width of the room. If the room were 14' wide, could just the center 6' be lofted, with support posts under the front two corners (back 2 would be anchored in the wall), and those support posts would almost behave visually like a big 4-poster bed, with the two twin beds under the loft.
Girls' room (maybe boys' also?) Could this go on the first floor (mostly everything has 9' ceilings), but vault this, have it on a gable end, so a window in the loft. If the room were `14' wide, with an 8/12 roof pitch, I think the area under the loft could have 6 1/2', and then there would be about the same at the center peak of the loft. 2 beds under the loft, one up in it.
galley kitchen with one side being an island. not too big, not too small. Perhaps pantry right behind the kitchen wall.
"Palace Porch". - not realistic, but it sure is lovely. But maybe some kind of screened porch would be possible. So the features of this that I love are:. the masonry fireplace the low masonry walls + columns good lighting + high ceilings symmetry.....I pretty much always love symmetry
Sink and toilet closet behind clothes closet - kids'rooms?
Sink alcove in the bedroom for the kids' rooms
Pull-out pantry shelves. I like the idea of these in a pantry, along with room for a chest freezer. I would also love to use a set of pull-outs like this in the mudroom. Varying widths for various stuff.
I love this, but I'm not sure it's wise... I'd love to have the benches on each side be twin bed sized, to double as guest sleeping space. But, closing off a heat source like that really doesn't work we if you're actually wanting to heat the house. We already have a freestanding soapstone wood stove we want to put in this home. I'll see if I can add a link/picture.
I suspect this room is actually huge, but I love the closet behind the headboard thing.
