So I would like to tie in the same "modern wainscoting" from the back mud room to create a back drop of the hooks to help pull the look together instead of being a bench against a wall

I think the wainscoting is key to tying it all together and making it look "finished".

Love the way the cabinet is seamless built into the bench and display on top. Karla - I think this is the closest to what I'm thinking. The top where they have pots will be open and the area to the right where where are baskets would actually be a closet with a door for coats.

If we enclose it like this, then we could build display shelves into the top. I really don't like the enclosure. It' looks like they took doors off a closet and did a make shift mudroom area.

Another way of doing a shelf but I don't think I like this one as much.

I like the way the bench looks built in. And I'd love to find a way to do some paneling on the wall because it will keep the wall from getting scuffed where things are hung, but I'm not sure there's a way to do that without it looking cottage-y. Also like the shelf on top.

I don't like the "cottage" look but I do like the shelf at the top and the fact that the bench is built in. Though I wouldn't want a cushion on top (just something to clean).

I like the way the bench is enclosed by the cabinets, and the top part could be open for the display I want. But this looks expensive.
