Things that work: cement island paired with white cabinets; stove in island; exposed brick and beams; the mismatched furniture. We don't have the benefit of the floor to ceiling windows, so something like this could end up feeling cramped and heavy. But it'a a neat approach.

I like the rectangularity of the appliances and cabinet fixtures. It looks simple, yet when teamed with the playful backsplash creates a unique environment. Could be fun to play with something like this.

The backsplash!!! Fun. Paired with the deep color of the wood, it takes a fun swing at the 70s. This is my favorite style in this book and I think this combo paired with a cement floor is the absolute best way to go for RomeDome.

Things that work: the muted color and design of the cabinets, the island with sink, the attached regular height dining island ledge, and the flooring. It's a cool take on contemporary design and I think it works well together. Modern with a touch of tradition.

This is a little too Ikea-y for my tastes, but I like the explosive red on the cabinets. Really a nice statement. Matched with the weaved backsplash creates a lively and unexpected combination. The dark colors of the cabinets are also neat. Love the recessed lighting and ceiling height differences.

Again, I love the mixture of materials: cement, wood, plastic. I think it all works well together. I originally pictured cement or tile flooring, but I like the plain pine here, mixed with the more decorative finished wood of the cabinets in the kitchen. Combined with some type of cement ceiling style could be really eye-catching. I also like the openness of this design, along with the attached island and stools.

Space saving storage is key in any kitchen. I love this. Especially in RomeDome, where the kitchen could potentially have many corners and edges, items like this would work really well.

Q

I think the metal cabinetry is really neat. It's a throwback to my time in NYC (this whole design feels very loft-like). But I think it works. With a little scaling back it could work well in RomeDome. The metal cabinets (industrial kitchen) mixed with the marble countertops is unexpected and fun.

Q

This is so perfect. The different heights of the cabinet counters and the dual island heights. I love the introduction of wood, glass, and traditional cabinetry. It all works really harmoniously and would look great in RomeDome.

Q

I included this image as an example of something that I think is too modern. It'll look dated really quickly. However, I think the tile flooring matched with the white cabinetry is stunning. But no blue light!

Q

Photo

I like the coloring of the cabinets, but that's about it. The design is a little nondescript and blah, but I think the color is subtle and effective.

Q

I like the combination of the steel in the windows with the wood of the table top. Different and juxtoposed materials are inherently modern, and I think this could work well. It helps to have the tall windows in this picture, but I think the materials could work for us.

Q

I love everything about this one. The cement flooring to the modern countertops, all paired with the unfinished materials of the walls and ceilings. Even though we won't have unfinished elements in the house, I think this combo of white lacquer cabinets and cement floors hints at a timeless yet modern design.

Q

Photo

The countertop materials is great. I love the copper color teamed with the blue tile backsplash. It's a traditional kitchen, but one with a modern upgrade. I think something like this could work.

Q

The built in dining nook is crazy cool. I love the idea of a modern booth in the kitchen, and I think this design is subtle yet welcoming.

Q

Photo

This is a bit too modern and unadorned, but I like the color of the walls and the subtle flooring. The cabinets are too bare, but I do think the materials are cool. I love the marble top and side to the island.

Q

Photo

I like the separation of the kitchen from the living room and dining room. They are clearly connected through the large open space, but the section of wall behind the stove creates a clear enough distinction of spaces. I also kind of like the backsplash and cabinet material.

Q

Photo

I like the built in desk. The different levels of countertops are great, and allows the kitchen to be used for more than just prepping food. I think a kitchen should have a built in work station like this, but one that is clearly separated.

Q

Photo

I don't think a traditional kitchen would be right in RomeDome. However, this kitchen strikes a nice balance between traditional and modern. The marble flooring is great, as are the white cabinets that almost fade into the wall. This allows us to choose what elements are accented and what are not.
