We did a small island/table combo and I do not regret it at all, we made the working side counter height and the eating side at table height. I agonized over this decision and nearly made the whole thing counter height, but decided that table height would be more comfortable for lingering over dinner, playing games, or whatever. It's also good for rolling out dough and such. Our table has 4 chairs with 2 on each side facing each other. We have 2 extra chairs in a closet - we can comfortably seat 5, and 6 is doable but tight. We do have a dining room off the kitchen that seats 6-8 but only use it for holidays or large gatherings.
