The floppy, large green leaves of Ficus lyrata make a room look brighter and feel happier. Put it in a spot where it’ll receive indirect sunlight, water once a week or when the soil feels dry to the touch, make sure it’s in a pot that drains well and repot it in the spring if its roots are starting to grow out the bottom of the container.
Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery SaveEmail If you want the room to mimic daylight, the ALA recommends using a bulb rated 4,000 Kelvin or higher. (The Kelvin, or K, rating describes how visually warm or cool a light is.) The higher the K rating, the cooler or bluer the light appears. The Color Rendering Index (CRI) is the second important number. A higher CRI is optimum. For example, 100 CRI mimics natural light and is perfect for highlighting skin tones and clothing. CFLs and LEDs usually have ratings in the 80s and are usually less flattering light sources.
f your budget allows only for a few such window treatments, you won’t regret installing them in the bedroom, particularly if you have multiple windows. Besides saving yourself the step of manually closing each shade at the end of a long day, motorization offers the convenience of timed controls. You can program the shades to rise and fall at predetermined times each day.
Let the spirit of a cozy, casual and rejuvenating dining experience guide you when you‘re planning the composition of your garden, allowing the lines of beds, paths and other features to drift loosely through the landscape to avoid any sense of formality. Instead, create a sense of order by layering different elements over one another — a grape pergola over a picnic table, a fig tree over a simple patio water feature or an olive tree over a planting of lavender, as pictured here.

Tip: Avoid adding a light above the mirror. That includes recessed lighting in the ceiling. “That would throw a strong light onto your forehead and cast deep shadows below your eyes, nose and chin,” Use 75 to 100 watt bulbs fro proper illumination
a pair of sconces mounted at eye level on either side of the mirror to provide shadowless illumination. This creates the best scenario for makeup application, shaving, tooth care and so on.
Task lights in powder rooms can have much less wattage (think 45-watt range), as this is not a space where anyone will be performing the morning ritual. Lower wattage provides a softer, relaxing ambience for guests. Find a color temperature that makes the room feel inviting and illuminates guests in the most attractive way.

Light conditions greatly affect the appearance of colors. You need to test the color in areas of shadow and direct light, and observe it during the day and evening, when you switch to artificial light, to get a real sense of whether it’s right for you. Live with the colors for a couple of days, and the best option will become evident.
