They made the most of storage in the master bath — the cabinet on the left is 7 feet tall and 30 inches deep. "It's like a giant dresser," Gatling says. The mirrors on the right conceal 8-inch-deep medicine cabinets, and the shuttered door holds everyday items such as toothbrushes. Beadboard cabinets stay in keeping with the period. Matching the floor and backsplash tiles helped streamline the room. The counters are Alba Chiara marble.
Greige. A made-up color, but important enough to mention because I use it so much. A soft gray with beige undertones that is a perfect complement to most white marbles, such as Calacatta. It's a great solution for those who feel gray is too cold. This elegant bathroom is painted in my favorite greige, Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter HC-172.
Yellow. One of the trickiest paint colors to get right is yellow, but this shade is just right. A tip for picking a yellow from a paint fan deck: Select something that looks almost beige. Yellow is always much brighter on a wall than on a paint chip. This sun-filled dining room is painted in Benjamin Moore's Mushroom Cap 177.
This bedroom is painted in Benjamin Moore's Quiet Moments 1563, which is best paired with a crisp white.
Hidden outlets. The scourge of bathrooms is the clambering masses of electronic devices that demand an outlet and adjacent counter space: hair dryers, electric toothbrushes, electric razors and curling irons. Don’t you wish they would all vamoose to where you can’t see them? That could be a real possibility if you install outlets inside medicine cabinets and drawers. Out of sight, out of mind until you need them.
The Kashas used a thick, limestone tile for the shower walls and floors, extending it out for the rest of the bathroom's flooring. A custom limestone sink sticks to the simple but luxe material palette.
Contrasting gray, black and white look crisp and clean in the new bathroom. jons112 installed beadboard on the lower half of the wall so the darker gray wouldn't overpower the room.
