The hickory eating bar and horizontal rift white oak cabinets add the warmth of wood and the bright backsplash with dark vein brings in soft, clean visual texture.
Walls were removed to create an open concept kitchen with a huge island. We went with light cabinets and a dark island to bring back the dark herringbone style backsplash. We also added an oak band on the hood to bring back the new oak floors. This island has 4 counter stools for a large crowd.

White perimeter cabinets with wood island...but note stools are "see-thru" so wood can be seen more.

Do NOT want too much black or dark grey. This is an example of being TOO dull/dark vs contemporary class.

Run "wood"/"veneer" along back for backslash and have all painted cabinets (vs any wood Veneer cabinets)???
Beams would give a totally new look.

Black with medium-tone walnut/oak???White "range hood" helps brighten space while not too much of a contrast.
Grey backsplash helps "tone down" and blend bright white contrast cabinets with walnut island.
Just use Walnut veneer "surrounds" on end pantry/cabinets with white (or other painted) cabinet doors???
Darker walnut wood tones with white countertops and white/lighter backsplash with BLACK range hood (to introduce black) and black outlined tall glass doors with walnut surround cabinetry.???
Slightly off-white cabinets seem to work better with darker walnut; not such a big contrast???
