Hi Jeanne. It is #2 pine. The trick is tp paint the ceiling black first, then paint your pine boards, then install the pine to the black ceiling.. This will give you good clean lines between the boards.. If you install the pine and then paint it, it looks sloppy in the cracks between the boards as the paint will glob up in an irregular fashion.. Mike

we used 1x8 ship lap pine ( you could use pine tongue and groove with a square edge, I have used both 1x8 and 1x10's depending on the look you're after) , painted with an off white paint then applied a stain wax called Classic Wax.. the beams are just rough sawn pine, we vary the size depending on the ceiling height and look we're trying to achieve.

1. Take charge. Designer Tracey Stephens was tasked with creating a retro-style kitchen that features vintage furniture and checkerboard floors for a New Jersey family of four. But the requirements of the technology age were not lost on the design. The kitchen includes a drawer with a built-in charger, complete with regular and USB outlets. “It’s so nice not to have all of those devices out and dealing with cords all the time,” homeowner Jody Suden says.
