Morgan Edmunds: Color Theory Idea Book
This picture is Triadic. It is this because the colors that are used are equally spread out through the color wheel. They each have three spaces in between them. The colors include red, yellow, and blue. These are also the primary colors. The feeling and mood this creates is high in intensity due to all of the bold colors. It gives off a feeling of excitement and warmth due to the red and yellow, but also creates balance with the cool blue.
This picture is Complementary. It is this because the colors that are used are directly across from each other on the color wheel. The colors used are orange and blue, in a darker shade. This style makes the orange and blue compliment each other very well. It makes each color pop while it stills feel leveled out. The mood and feeling this creates is a feeling of warmth and excitement from the orange while there is also a feeling of relaxed and calm from the blue. This design draws a lot of visual attention.
This picture is Neutrals. It is this because it does not involve any real color and only involves neutral colors. The neutrals that are used are while, many shades of brown, beige, grey, and black. The feeling this gives off is very clean, refreshed, and relaxing. It also creates a feeling of soothness, openness, and steadiness. The bright colors also make the space feel more open.
This picture is Accented Neutrals. It is this because the everything that is in this picture is either a neutral or one actual color from the color wheel. The neutrals that are used are brown, white, and black while the color that is used is blue. The feeling and mood this creates is a feeling of cleanness but due to the pop of blue it creates the style a little more exciting and fun.
This picture is Monochromatic. It is this because it shows different textures, values, and intensity. The ceiling shows a lot of texture as well as the rustic feeling back wall. Many different values of colors are shown in different intensities such as yellow, blue, red, and green. This design is clean and elegant so it creates a soothing and calming effect.. this room has too many colors in it to be Monochromatic.. Monochromatic room have only 1 color, not including any wood tones found in the furniture or flooring..
This picture is Analogous. It is this because it involves four different colors that are beside each other on the color wheel. Those colors include blue-violet, blue, blue-green, and green. This design has a lot of similar colors but still has enough contrast to feel cohesive and complete. The feeling that is created in all this blue in this design is calm, peaceful, and relaxed.
This room is Split Complementary. It is this because red-violet is directly across from yellow-green on the color wheel. On each side of yellow-green there is a green and a yellow. This picture is able to be split complementary because it uses the colors red-violet, green, and yellow. This design can feel a little chaotic sometimes but the feeling it gives off is relaxed and easy-going with little tension.
