Dramatic Drapery

In the season of warming up the home atmosphere, draperies can do much to keep out the cold. If you don't normally hang drapes, the winter season is a great time to try some out; if you already have them hung around your dwelling, hanging heavier seasonal drapes such as velvet can change the entire atmosphere. Hanging out just got a lot warmer.

This blue-gray shade draws in perfectly the look from around the room. The curtains are full, warm, but not overdone. Perfect balance.

Q

Photo

It's the drapery here that gives this room its tone and finished look.

Q

Sheer, discreet, necessary.

These two layers of curtains provide a sheer cover and privacy for daytime, and a heavier coverage for night. The curtains are only one of countless examples of beautiful structure and texture to create this room, yes this room that I could live in and never leave.

Another unexpected use: hiding the media center.

Another unexpected use: dividing a room softly.

Creamy and wonderful. These curtains are discreet yet give the needed warmth for this corner.

Q

Traditional form and pattern take on a new look when the two fabrics are interspersed.

Another unexpected area: dividing and sectioning a small area for privacy. This side room now becomes an extra guest bed (or a place to quietly sneak off to for reading).

Q

More luxury, this time found in what is, other than the chair and ottoman, the only pattern in the bedroom. So classy.

Q

Photo

Unexpectedly dark curtains ground this room and give it a very modern warmth.

Q

Consider drapes in places other than the window, such as this poster bed.

And the entire room, exhibiting what room the curtains are adding luxury to. Beautiful.

Q

Neutral and luxurious. Create that luxury by considering the type and weight of fabric (for instance, you might want to go more sheer and less heavy in the summer months...)--and consider adding extra yardage so the bunch and gather is greater.

Q

Drapes, as seen here, can also help to block an area from the cold and visually segment spaces within the room.

Q

Yet even discreet white or neutral drapes can add extra texture to a normally sleek room, suggesting a warming winter version of the room.

Another example of similar color palates.

Q

An unexpected bright color such as this scarlet can add warmth visually as well as physically.

Q

These help add vertical height and softness to the geometric windows.

Q

What a wonderful way to, aside from shutting out all light and nighttime chill, tie in colors from around the room.
