Two feet seems like a lot to me, too, especially if they are all the same height. It will look quite linear. What about your vent? What kind of vent are you doing? can that go all the way up? I have posted so many pictures of my kitchen that even *I* am sick of it :) but here goes... I have 10' ceilings, and the cabs are 42" but I stuck all that crown on them and did the vent cab all the way up.

Ok, these look to be 48" cabinets, they actually look quite nice, maybe because of the trim work on the doors? They broke up the height visually, so they don't look too long and awkward :) Click to see whole picture
