The Modern Goan House

The Modern Goan House reinterprets the layered identity of Goan architecture through a contemporary lens, grounded in material honesty, regional craft, and spatial clarity. Designed as a long-term rental villa, the home offers an immersive living experience shaped by the site’s climate, context, and culture.

Drawing from traditional Goan and Portuguese homes, the architecture incorporates deep overhangs, shaded verandahs, and proportioned fenestrations, paired with minimal detailing and a restrained material language.

Locally sourced Kadappa stone flooring, lime-plastered walls, and laterite stone elements enhance durability, thermal comfort, and a strong connection to the landscape. Guided by passive cooling strategies and porous boundaries, the house feels rooted yet open, flexible, and distinctly shaped by place.
