I decorate my walls with pieces of art (prints, paintings) that I like and I think are pretty. For me that includes botanical art (flowers), vintage china, some lovely landscapes painted by a relative, prints I've picked up here and there, a few pictures / items that reflect my faith, pictures of my kids and so on. Your pictures / artwork should reflect you. If the art has color in it, that would be great to add some to your room.

Not a very good option for indian family lifestyle at least. But again its a subjective matter, depends on the choices. White is best when it is a Pure 'Minimal' Design. British Architect John Pawson is one i find best in my knowledge till now who is doing minimal architecture in its purest form. And i don't see any in india who is doing such work.
