If you want the door hidden, in a pocket, yes, you will need a skilled carpenter. Essentially, the opening header and frame, will become twice it's size, with the "pocket" part, hidden behind the wall. The studs/supports will need to be removed to make a space for the door to slide into. Do you have any switches or outlets on the fireplace wall?

Hi Seema. Can you post some pictures below of the interior and exterior of the house? Then we could start a conversation on it. For the interior, just start with a couple of rooms -- too much all at once is overwhelming. For the exterior, try to post one shot showing the full front of the house, or as much as possible of it, and a close up so that we can see the texture and composition of the walls.

Either of that would require a site study, without that it is not possible to estimate the plans or costs or even a realistic design plan. If you are keen , you can search for professionals in this forum and contact them or leave your number for interested architects to call you. However, this idea of building the second story and then breaking the lower floor walls is not feasible. It is a hilly area and you should be all the more cautious with the foundation.
