I'd go for make it white; then right there, flop one nice little white overstuffed loveseat or something that fit, or one big whopping chair, and fit in a tiny table and light; treat that corner as it's very own micro-retreat, and the seating is to not face out into the room. Like little lounge spots put under stairs, make this one dedicated to the view; and make it minimal. Decorate the rest of the room as if the column and retreat bit isn't there.

The places I'd actually put a fridge: 1) The main one in the kitchen for everyday use. 2) a spare in the basement near the TV room for snacks & drinks when people come over to watch a game or teens are hanging out. Also used as extra storage when buying things in bulk or when preparing Thanksgiving dinner. 3) possibly a spare in the garage for drinks when I'm working outside and don't want to track dirt/grass into the house from the garden. 4) a small one in the dorm room at boarding school or college.

What kind of a look are you looking at for your house. A minimalist modern look or a contemporary ethnic look. First and foremost you need to do away with the current drapes and replace them with fabric blinds or light curtains so that there is some natural sunlight in the room. Paint the entire room white so that instantly brightens up the room. The long 27ft wall can be wall papered with a bricked look 3D wall paper on light grey or beige or just a textured wall in beige or grey. Also removing your sofa from there will open up the space. The current drawing area can be used as a foyer/entryway with just a bench and a shoe rack. Rest of the details I will share after making a rough plan with all furniture placement. Also what is your budget for renovation.

Dear Mr. Maverick, Hope you are doing great. Seeing at your post its very clear that you are a passionate person and taking your designing process seriously. Also you are accepting that you are not a designer yourself which is a good gesture against those clients who think themselves superior when it comes to design choices but knows nothing in real. I agree with above replies to share some information about your house starting with the floor plans as without these no one would be able to help you in any way. Also you need to understand that designing is a subjective and time consuming process and doesn't happen in an instant. If its just about getting ideas then you can find millions on google search.
