Ciranova Wood Look is a invisible zero gloss water base polyurethane finish.

"What is the best stain" No stain. You don't have to stain them. What you need is a high quality polyurethane. It's the poly that is yellowing and builders grade is not good enough.

Oak itself ambers over time, with age. As ALL wood changes color over time, regardless if the finish is oil or water based. Time happens. Age happens. Wood changes.

The only way to stop that is to use laminate, not oak. It will remain the same over the lifetime of the piece. As any owner of 60 year old mid century dressers with laminate tops can attest. It was used for it’s greater resistance to water and abrasion, and has easily withstood the test of time.

As Verbo said, the wood itself will change color even without any nitrocellulose on it. The color change can be slowed significantly with a UV blocker. Most, UV blockers are really UV absorbers and so eventually they absorb all the UV they can and normal color change will then happen, but they can delay the color change for many years. They are typically sprayed on as a topcoat and available in a lot of product lines.

@M Riz, thank you! Will post photos of the completed kitchen in a couple months. Yes, we have a combination prep kitchen and pantry behind the kitchen. The door is a pocket door so we will be able to keep open or close it off. The first photo is of the prep kitchen cabinets. We will have a 2nd oven, the microwave and a 2nd dishwasher back there. If we want to katerwe can add another fridge, but think the large one in the kitchen will suffice.

We really transformed our custom cabinets with the Rubio Monocoat Precolor Easy and Rubio Oil. It was really important to me as a designer to use a eco-friendly product for this cabinet finish and design, but I also wanted a cerused effect. We were able to achieve this by staining the cabinets with Antique Beige PreColor Easy and then Sealing them with Super White Rubio Oil. The cabinets look amazing and so unique. Rubio is a great finish for furniture and cabinets. No concern with wear. One year later and you cannot see any wear marks! These custom cabinets are rift sawn white oak and Rubio made them really shine.

@bry911, thank you for this advice. Is the UV blocker applied on top of the stain sealer or is it used in place of the sealer. We have narrowed it down to 2 stains and they put a clear sealer on then which did change stains so curious if a UV blocker will also affect the color or tone. Thanks again this is very helpful.

I had a house with white oak doors that were cerused to maintain that raw new whiteness. I think it is necessary, if you want to keep the lightness, to add a white pigment before sealing. Otherwise the natural darkening will happen over the years.
