It is evident that the building FAR/FSI are not being followed at your town, otherwise such sandwich construction wouldn't have got approvals.

However your dilemma is logical and your new extension alongwith neighbours construction would cut down the natural light in the ground floor . 

We don't think you are left with any other choice than to extend. Please don't go with a random extension, hire a professional to plan and design so that natural light and ventilation can be take care of .

Thank you Nitin for your suggestion. Town is Jaipur and in our locality, all the row houses have proper setback but these new neighbors came and changed things by extending their first floor balcony close to compound wall. If I want to go as per building FAR what should I do?

Sorry..one correction the part we want to extend is Porch and not the balcony. Pics are of our porch side.
