Veneers or solid wood cabinets?

I’m installing custom kitchen cabinets in a stained white oak finish. Is it best to use veneers or solid wood? The one cabinet maker said veneers are the way to go because solid wood warps, but I’m also hearing that solid wood is better because you can restain if they get a scratch but you can’t do that with a wood veneer. Any thoughts/advice would be MUCH appreciated! Thank you!!!

Each will have a different appearance. You get looks with veneer that are impossible with soli. Solid does warp. Because wood moves around with varying humidity.

I would use veneers for the carcasses and then use a real wood for the frontals. if you are having a shaker style door then I would use solid wood for the frame of the doors and add a veneer panel for the centre. Veneered boards are more stable in an environment where there is different temperatures, humidity moisture etc. Solid wood will move, twist, warp etc.

The choice of Laminate vs Painted vs Veneer would be how you would be using your kitchen and sometimes personal preference as well. 1. Laminate finishing in your kitchen would allow you to have a great choice of colours from woodgrain, pastel, gloss, etc. Laminates are also more resilient to scratching and wear. 2. Spray paint finishing depends on the type of colour you choose, will give the cabinet a real nice feel especially in a matt type white finish. Spray painted finishes do have a con with chipping and scratches in the long run. 3. veneer is made out of natural wood and if you are someone who likes the natural and warm finishing of a natural looking wood finish, this would be a good choice. Although veneer has a high tendency for scratches and marking, so you would need to have special care with it.

a much taller head board, something to soften up the cabinets. the bench at the end needs new fabric, and possible paint raise the bed with risers on the feet. warm neutral tones.

Hi all, My existing kitchen needs a major revamp and I am currently in the process of talking to kitchen vendors to redo the whole thing and also add a kitchen island for regular dining. I am a bit confused about what finishes to go for to achieve a classy yet fun kitchen. I love the Spanish/ Moroccan tiles that are in style these days and would love to use them on the back splash and floor. Also, mostly got to go with black granite counter tops to survive Indian cooking. For top cabinets, If i got with white matte/hi-gloss(you can suggest which easy to maintain and look good) and wood veneer on bottom cabinets, would it be too busy and clash ? Duco paint would not be suitable for a kitchen because one tends to touch the shutters and drawers with wet or greasy hands and you will always find brownish marks around the handles over a period of time. It is not easy to 'touch up'. It would have to be scraped down and repainted. Dark Veneer is a better option because it does not show wear that easily. But if you have the budget, the best option would be either solid wood which looks fantastic for years, or coloured laminate (since you mentioned paint) with matching edge binding tape for the edges. It looks pretty good and homogenous Look at the white shutters here. Zero maintenance! And this is teak. It's 9 years old. It looks as good as new. I have also done one kitchen in maple and another in pine because of the insistence of the owners, but I would not generally recommend light wood for rough use

We did veneer wrapped doors on our bar cabinets and bathroom cabinets. It’s a modern finish and still looks great after 3 years of heavy use. In our kitchen we have regular painted wood cabinets that are prone to chipping and warping. I would do veneer finish again without a doubt. Highly durable.

Thank you for all of this advice! We live in the valley in Los Angeles so it can get warm. Our house is a mid century modern home so we are doing flat fronts for the doors. This is very helpful. Thank you.
