Looking at the picture it seems you live in either India or Pakistan. The flooring sort of reminded me of it. First off I would decide what pieces are to keep and what can be replaced. If you aren't thinking of replacing - I would suggest to spray paint them in black, which would make them new. Change the hardware on them to silver. Paint the walls a nice light gray. Bring in a bold graphic (geometric patterned) in your window treamtments and hang them higher closer to the ceiling to bring in an illusiuon of height.. The window treatments can be pulled from your throw pillows. If the room is on the smaller side I would bring in a darker shade of gray in horizontal band which would make the room look bigger. I would bring in crisp white sheets on the bed and bring some throw pillows in either reds, yellows blues and greens or a combination. You can have beautiful throw bringing in a beautiful ethnic touch with embroidery or mirror work done on it. You can paint the cupboard doors in white. I hope this helped.

You can work with your currant wall color or go more yellow - that is up to you. If you do decide to go more yellow. get some small inexpensive sample bottles at the paint store, paint some poster board and hang it on a wall for couple of days because getting the right buttery yellow can be hard. A soft yellow and lavender is pretty together but I also like the sea green. When you said a combo of modern and cottage - that made me think of beach cottages, which often have soft colors (including sea green) and unfussy, calm interiors. You can put a large painting up if you have the wall space for it. Many bedrooms have tall chest, dresser mirror, tall headboard and big TV, all which take up wall space. If you can hang the painting without it being crowded by any of the things I mentioned, it should look very nice. If you wish to do a curtain fabric treatment to a wall and you have the vision of what you want - then go for it. I had a friend who did that in collage - only problem was the yards and yards of fabric needed got rather expensive. So, I would start with finding bedding you love. Simple white is good, and not too expensive. However, you might find something else light that you love, or a quilt or throw for the bottom of the bed and the colors and shades might lead you in a different direction for wall color or accents. So bedding first, then curtains, then see how your wall color is and then add accents and art - although your painting can also be an inspiration for colors.

You must go English. The colour depends on the kind of finish that you want in the sense whether it is veneer or laminate. You get excellent laminate these days. Don’t introduce a dramatic shade, instead opt for something subtle and subdued. Infact if you have a great carpenter glass would be a great option. However it must be toughened and frosted white.

Hello Kayzad Shroff & Maria Leon! I'm designing my bedroom all by myself and now I want it to seem like I'm living among a rainforest. So I went for wooden times, veneer laminate wardrobes. The bed will be a platform bed so it'll be low to the ground. I'm now stuck with the ceiling and the wall opposite to the headboard. I thought of wall murals, but that particular wall has windows on the right side, so can't get the wall murals/wallpapers to give that Forest feel. So could you help with your suggestions?
