how to prevent stone cladding eroding beside washbasin

I have stone cladding behind wash basin, it's now 4 years and the cladding skin out gradually due to water. can I put clear acrylic on top of the cladding.

Behind the sink is not an ideal place for stone cladding.

You may get it cleaned professionally and the go for a clear stone lacquer.
