How do I redecorate this living room?
Comments (14)Love the armless sofa-bench! Try using it in the center as a "cross-linking" piece between the sofa and chairs. That way people can sit on both sides of it, conversing with the sofa people and the chair people. Put the chairs where it is and use the side table from the left of the pic, or the one with flowers, between them. You'll need one huge rug to anchor the space or two smaller, and very similar ones, to put on either side of the blue sofa-bench. The other two side tables are too tall and too short for your seating pieces, so ditch them. Use your coffee table between the sofa and armless sofa (18" away from each of them.) Here's a chart for judging table and lamp heights as you'll need to work on that for balance. Please try this arrangement, and post by commenting and using the Attach Images button to add pix of the update. We'll tweak it on out from there....See MoreNeed help with the center table and the wall treatment.
Comments (21)Perhaps a large round table might mean a rug is not at all necessary. It could be a metal tray table, or carved wood like Rebecca Mitchell Interiors illustrates. Ideas also to consider, using multiple tables can be found at http://www.houzz.com/multiple-coffee-tables. I also agree with comments above that some color is needed on the walls. You could then hang round mirrors, or an unusual curved shape like RMI shows above....See Morerental house decoration
Comments (3)Hi Julie, Today there are a number of custom made multipurpose furniture pieces that are available in the market on the one hand whereas on the other certain regular pieces if used innovatively don't hurt your pocket yet solve the purpose. .Here are a few ideas to choose from - 1] Sofa cum bed Either go in for the ready made and built in sofa cum bed as shown below - or make two different pieces - a sofa with backrest and a backless settee and join them to form a bed when necessary - 2] Trunk cum coffee table An old trunk serves as an excellent coffee table and also doubles up as a storage for your extra cushions, magazines etc. 3] Bench cum dining seat Go for a basic bench or an upholstered one, its still a cheap buy. You may use it by the dining table for seating or move it to the living or even the bedroom. 4] Settee cum storage A small ledge with drawers or a free standing box storage, all it needs is a cushioning on top and it serves as a reading nook with place to store you books or as a place to sit and wear you footwear that's stored inside. 5] Nest tables These are a blessing in disguise. They can be easily moved around and can be used as end tables for living room or side tables for bedroom or can remain stacked in a corner when not needed. Go for simple designs or ornate ones depending on you budget. 6] Cabinet cum TV Console An old cabinet can be put to use by mounting a TV on top of it while the cabinet can be used to store media accessories. Tip: Do visit Chor Bazaar in Mumbai and Lajpat Nagar in Delhi where you can find old reclaimed furniture or cheap replicas. These are open for bargain and are a good buy as far as the pricing and aesthetic is concerned. You can also find furniture online these days. Just be wary of what you are buying and from where. Hope this helps. All the best! Regards, RnD Atelier Nagpur...See MoreBlending different styles and colours for rooms.
Comments (8)Hi Nadia, Using different design styles for interiors has two consequences - 1] You may end up with a poor patchwork reminiscent of a interior design showroom. 2] You may end up with a perfect blend of eclecticism. Avoid giving each room a different look as this will not only break the continuity of the space but will be visually overwhelming. Instead try to blend. This way you will maintain a visual connectivity of different spaces and the entire home would look balanced and cohesive even on being eclectic. You may achieve this by using the following tips: 1] Use a colour palette that suits the theme. You may use neutrals all the way and splash a bit of colour in on a wall or two just to highlight. These walls may be the ones in your foyer or passage or balcony or simply behind the sofa or TV unit etc. Remember that the colour is being used as a highlighter so place it judiciously. 2] Each design style comes with a set structure and rules hence, use an interpretation of design styles and not the styles as they are. This will allow you to make decisions flexibly as there will be lesser restraint. 3] Have a clear control on the aesthetic. Minimize, dont overdo, else the space will look like a museum and not a home. 4] Make judicious use of furniture. Use colonial designs for all your loose furniture like chairs, end tables etc. Keep your beds and sofas clean and contemporary. Add eclectic cushions. 5] Use furnishings wisely - american pleat curtains in pastel hues, damask/textured wallpapers, natural fabrics like linen, silk etc for upholstery. Add a bit of greenery in the form of plants. 6] Use natural stones for flooring (rustic tiles would also do) with motif tiles to highlight spaces like the kitchen, bathroom wall or foyer floor.
