Silestone Lagoon. Up close, it's clearly gray, with just discernible veining, and it gives nice contrast with white cabinets while being very light.

How about finding a matching plain white quartz or Corian and then do an amazing/different backsplash.

Since your cabinets are very simple, I would look for something with some slight color or variation rather than pure white. You could even consider using a color for the countertop, and then pairing it with a white back splash.

Suggestion out of the blue.... how about actual marble? It is in the same price range as the faux stuff (well, not Calacatta, but Carrara and Danby are) and more beautiful by far. If you’re worried about etching, get a honed marble, you’ll see it less. If you’re worried about staining, get it sealed.

Actually, what the Greeks do with marble counters is cover them in lemon juice when they are installed. You’ll never see an etch on an etched surface. I’m told the Italians do the same with tomatoes, but that might be cultural myth. Neither culture traditionally seals the stone, they leave it as a living surface, but if you want your counters to look the same in 20 years as they do on installation day, this might not be the surface for you.

Gosh, it’d be pretty though.

You have a lot more white in your kitchen than I do however. Our perimeter cabs are a light greige, while our island is charcoal. I might go with something with more grey in it so it’s not white on white on white on white

are you doing a white backsplash too? because I think w/an all white countertop and splash, you could do surgery in there.

@eam44, great point about marbles. I mean, think of all the marble "piazzas" in Italy, and I imagine Greece, they have been there for centuries. I'm sure they have etched and scratched a thousand times over and they are still beautiful!

Thanks megs! I’ve been thinking a lot about marble lately. It was my first choice, then I got a little shy about the “living surface” aspect, considered soapstone, and that was going to be my choice, but now I’m thinking about dark vs. light counters, and I’m back to marble again. I don’t know if these will be helpful to the OP, but paying more for a fake version of marble doesn‘t always make sense. These are images of Danby Marble from VT.

@eam44, those Danbys are gorgeous! Have you looked at any quartzites? We chose one that the distributor called White Lux and it looks very much like marble.
