Agree that you load from sink, and plumbing is there, other considerations would be if you have an unusual configuration like a corner sink where you might need a cabinet in between so you can comfortably open dishwasher while you stand at sink, or maybe in some cases due to limited space you'd have it across from dishwasher somehow. Also consider unloading, ideally you want easy access to the storage you use for plates, glasses, silverware while the dishwasher is opened.

Tracy, more than the dishwasher it's the harsh chemicals used in the detergent that effects non stick coating. We should not dump everything in a dishwasher. You have to please check your vessels if they are dishwasher safe before putting them in dishwashers. There is a usually a dishwasher advice mark behind the modern vessels. Follow that advice.
