Need help with marble floring

We are constructing a new house and we have bought white marble with green veins for the entire house. We were suggested to go for a green border across the living room and a diamond structure with white and green 2'X2' diamonds in the dining area. Now that it is getting fixed, I am having second thoughts on our choice. Do people still get borders and diamonds in their homes with marble flooring? Or is it too outdated and a bad old school example? Please help.

Hello Srujana,

White Marble looks great.

But I am sorry to say this green checks and complete algae green kitchen floor wouldn't look as good..

These may be used in terrace or some other corner. We humbly opine against using this algae green inside the house.

This will also look good if ur dining area bigger n well lit and it is a separate room.

If ur dining n living are in one big single area then I recommend not to opt for it. Instead have bigger slabs of white marble with less joints and green as highlighter pattern depending upon on furniture layout. As you go on using and polishing white marble in future, will give you mirror effect.

Flooring with lesser joints will always look clean , clutter free n classy. And ofcourse less maintenance!

This is how it is. All green is the kitchen. The dining and the living are an adjoining space with two pillars separating them. The dining space and the living are both well lit as the living has a courtyard attached to it. Do you think this will look good? So the living room area is approximately 30'X14' , dining is 19'X14' and the kitchen is 15'X11'..

Would you think it would look okay?

Yes they do have similar styles in porcelain, but to me it doesn't look the same. Search around that site and see if any of the other tile designs in other materials strike your fancy. I know you said you don't like the subway, but you could get a glass tile in a 2X8 and lay it in a herringbone or find shorter ones and do a chevron. Don't know if you care for mosaics, or penny rounds, those would also look nice. You are going to have to narrow it down to a look you are drawn to, and then go from there. Search kitchen backsplashes on here to get some ideas as well.

We have two storey house here in shimla . Please suggest the kind of tiles we can have . It should not be marble as the weather here is already too cold. Also do tell the colour of the walls we can keep. I would prefer grey (medium to light ) , beige , white colours for the walls . Please do tell the type of tiles keeping the colours in mind

Hello Srujana, White with green border is Good and elegant.

However, complete green and checks are way too outdated. Please rethink before you get it done.

Thank you for your comment. I have attached the picture of the white marble- dont have a clearer picture of the green marble though.

The issue is they have already cut the marble now. Will it look too bad?

Good Morning.

Looks like our images are of same property but different angles/area.

We still maintain that even for these pics a white flooring would have brought a bigger impact.

now...that you have invested an amount of money in marble flooringd..what u can do to have a gr8 outcome out of the stuff u have i try using glass of different shapes✨✨ and colours to create boundaries and patterns between the diamond shapes that vl give a shiny yet classy evergreen look to your floor a lil arabian nights◼◽◾ types..❤

Hello there,

If the border of the diamond is green and inlaid marble is white that is fine; the vice-versa is great too. But to enhance the aesthetics, you need to do a diamond polish on them. Further, choose your furniture of a neutral or white accent instead of dark wood grains.

Green borders are good too but try to keep them slim 3" for skirts.

Any design could be bonded to any space, there's no rule for them. Just go with your imagination and choose color contrasts as you like.

Whatever reference images you've selected, you should notice that the entire house is painted white as in a blank canvas. Decor and furniture go on top of that.

Second, you should see the ceiling height, Since they are double height and high ceilings, it needs something to keep the space grounded and cozy. Hence the dark floors pull them down and give it an intimate arena.

If you want to achieve the same feat, I would consider using mirrors and colored glasses as decor frequently and keep the interior paint scheme in white. It will do the reverse; expand the space by illusion of reflections.

And you have already done that!
