Yes, ideally the fan should be centered in geometric center of room, but when push comes to shove it absolutely needs not be of couse, but i think a ceiling fan that is not centered and a chandelier that is centered will not look good

go to a lighting show room, take pictures of the space and any ideas you have. They are best suited to help you. also have a budget. the how to part is nice but most consumers have no idea that the pendants above are probably 300.00 each.
