Remodeling 'facelift' Cost

We are planning to have a major kitchen renovation. I would like to change the change the closets, add a master, change the floors, and some other changes. I consulted some contractors and was shocked to know the costs involved. I would like to know if anybody has done these before and what were the costs.

The cost for kitchen renovations and remodels have 4 main variables - the homes location, who does the work, the design and the materials - all of these inrfluence the price and all are under your control. You can get a quick estimate for your kitchen and other remodels at http://www.remodelormove.com/remodel-cost-calculators. The contractor is the right place to get the costs but unless you have a detailed design and all the materials picked out the contractor has to make a lot of assumptions which often produces a kitchen renovation cost that is higher than it would be if you had everything specified. Try meeting with a kitchen designer first - get your design done and all the materials selected then talk with a cotnractor

All of those remodels together can be more costly than the initial price of the home if you are in a low priced real estate location. Just the national averages for a mid range kitchen redo is 55K. A bath redo is 16K. A master addition is 104K. Plus the other "minor" changes that you are contemplating. This explains the popularity of doing teardowns in older neighborhoods with larger lots and homes with 8' ceilings that are not open concept. By the time everything is done to make the home "modern", an entirely new home could be constructed.

@magspag Thanx for the advice. We wanted to save some cost by not replacing the floor tiles, as well as save by retaining the upper cabinet in its current grey shade. Guess we will go for all-black for the cabinets: both below and above the counter; and put in a new counter-top that contrasts--maybe, a light coloured granite or slate. No. If you really want a shower fixture, make sure there's a drain and a sloping floor (so no glass door or shower pan) and just hang a fixture on a reasonable sized piece of wall. And consider the costs, how long you planned on living there, will you use it for more than spraying plants or washing the dog, etc.

Hi Avani, Different material used for the ceiling are POP, wood, laminates, glass, or the exposed cement ceiling. The basic concept is that it should look good with the design of the room, the size and the height of the room and its pocket friendly.
