About Us

At NePalo Cabinetmakers we build heirloom quality hand-crafted furniture that celebrates the combination of a design that accentuates the beauty of the wood and the finest craftsmanship to deliver a one of a kind piece. We believe that both form and function go hand in hand. As such, furniture pieces are custom-designed so that a client’s aesthetic goals are merged with their functional demands on the furniture piece. Let us help you make your space all that it can be. We use high quality domestic and imported hardwoods. We use FSC certified hardwoods and environmentally friendly materials to create your custom furniture. We mainly serve Marin County, the San Francisco Bay Area, Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley, the East Bay and the South Bay, but will also ship through out the continental USA. I started NePalo Cabinetmakers in 2002. Fine woodworking had been a hobby of mine for a long time, but by profession, I was trained as an engineer and received my MBA from UT Austin. With this background, I spent several years working as a banker, a consultant, a production manager, and a software designer. My heart, however, has always gravitated toward building beautiful things. Taking stock of our life, one day my wife suggested I take a chance and pursue my real passion — woodworking. We embraced the change in lifestyle and with the support of family and friends I began this journey with the hope of building a business that would incorporate both my engineering skills with my artistic vision. I moved my workshop out of my garage and into a large industrial space in San Rafael, California. With 3,000 square feet, I have been able to combine the use of classic hand tools with state of the art modern woodworking machinery. Over the years, I have met amazing people, made countless clients very happy, and continued to grow and develop both my craft and business. Currently, I am dabbling in the art of building hand-crafted acoustic guitars. My diverse background, incurable drive for perfection, and drive to provide the best client experience possible allow me to combine my project managerial skills with my problem solving skills and craftsmanship into a unique package that translates into happy and satisfied clients.

I initially hired Aaron to do a custom bookshelf for my collection of comics book and was so happy with the result I hired him again to do another custom bookshelf for my boardgames collection. Every single visitor to our house comments on how good the Comics shelves and accompanying ladder look, and I suspect the same will happen once my game room's finished :). Aaron delivered both projects on time and in budget, communicated clearly throughout and executed on the specs we'd discussed, which he'd always confirm with very clear drafts drawings. Would hire him again in a heartbeat (and already did)!

Aaron was recommended to us for custom cabinetry in our bedroom and bath. His work is exquisite, fairly priced, and he communicates well regarding schedules and potential project ideas. During our project, I had the pleasure of visiting his workshop and was completely inspired by his work. Beyond building custom-cabinetry, he designs and builds gorgeous custom guitars, has successfully manufactured award-winning toys, and is an amazing photographer. I think he has an engineering background... basically, the guy is a genius. If you have the chance to work with Aaron, you will find that he is a true craftsman. I tell my husband all the time that I want to be him when I grow up! Attached are photos of the bath cabinet which was later topped with a custom concrete counter and sink He will soon be working on a built-in bed unit for us...pics and a review will follow.

I hired NePalo Cabinetmakers after seeing a friend's kitchen and hearing about how much he liked working with Aaron the owner). I could not be happier with my choice. Aaron is responsive, timely, funny, fair and above all a true craftsman! My cabinets are in now and they make my house look like it's right out of the pages of a magazine. Several woodworker friends came over during the installation and were effusive in their praise of the craftsmanship in the cabinets. And these are picky people who got down on their hands and knees to inspect all the joints, hardware, drawers and everything. My architect had never worked with NePalo Cabinetmakers before and she also told me that Aaron was easy to work with and even helpful in terms of making good suggestions about design elements. We did not do traditional boxes, but added legs and details that make the cabinets appear to be pieces of furniture. I also wanted to use local wood and Aaron pointed me to some great places to look at samples. He was supportive of my choices, or provided detailed information about what I might not know about the properties of specific woods. Aaron works with all kinds of wood, so he is extremely knowledgeable. Aaron also was cognizant of my budget and kept me on track to meet it. It's very easy to have cost overruns when doing a kitchen, but my cabinets came in on budget. Before starting I got several bids, and while Aaron's wasn't the least expensive, it was much less than the highest bid I got. The cost of the cabinets was very fair considering the work that goes into them. Aaron has real pride in what he does and it totally shows in the end result. I am so happy with Aaron's work and would hire NePalo cabinetmakers for my next job. In fact I have already recommend them to friends.

Aaron built the cabinets for our recently completed kitchen remodel. His craftsmanship is excellent. He has an amazing eye with great attention to detail. Our kitchen is stunning and it's largely due to Aaron's work. Additionally, he was a pleasure to work with. He listens to really understand and deliver what you want. He also did a great job providing updates on timing and other project milestones. I highly recommend Aaron and look forward to working with him again.

I asked NePalo Cabinetmakers to design and build a desk . Although the dimensions were mine the design refinements were his. I had initially looked at This. Moser, however I wanted something a little different and at a better price. NePalo completed the project to my complete satisfaction, a beautiful craftsman piece of furniture and yet a very utilitarian desk that met all my needs and requirements

NePalo cabinets worked with school staff to design music storage for 2 new music classroom. Aaron was professional and made extra trips as the buildings that were being completed to make sure that the cabinets were the correct size the first time. We set a date to install that he met. Our music department is thrilled with the new storage. Thanks Aaron

We had our kitchen, master bath cabinets and library bookcases done by NePalo Cabinetmakers and we couldn't be happier. Aaron is a true artist/craftsman - very professional and a perfectionist. Our cabinets turned out even better than we'd imagined and we are tough critics. We feel very fortunate to have come across NePalo Cabinetmakers. Cannot recommend Aaron and NePalo highly enough.

Aaron did some custom bookshelves for a den. We love them. Aaron was great to work with - he had lots of great design ideas of his own and was tireless in working us to get the design "just right" for our home. The craftsmanship of his work is phenomenal and we've received many compliments on the bookshelves from our guests. Icing on the cake was that Aaron was able to complete and install the shelves ahead of schedule!

I have worked with Aaron on custom kitchens, bookcases that integrate a clients existing cabinetry, creating an entertainment center that was then installed and distressed, you name it Nepalo can do it! Commented: Does this work for keys?The keys themselves are not ferromagnetic, the trick is to have a keychain that is ferromagnetic for the M.O.C. Board to work with your keys. I hope that helps.
