We’ve been working with Susanne since 2012. She’s remodeled our condo as well as our home. Big projects and small. What I appreciate most about her, is she doesn’t leave after the work is done. If something isn’t right, she fixes it. If we have questions, she find the answers. She has got us out of a jam on more than one occasion. I haven’t even mentioned the number of awards she earned from NARI for work she’s done for us. I highly recommend VanSelow Design Build.

Susanne and her team were great to work with! They are currently working on our backyard remodel and redesign, and have completed our whole house remodel, including a second floor addition and a FABULOUS kitchen redesign! I'm giving this a 4 star now, as were still in the process with Renovation, but I wanted to share just how much we appreciate Susanne and her team always being available when we needed their attention. She is very professional, passionate, and hands on. Something you don't see much anymore in a GC. Her priorities and holding her workers accountable is without a doubt. We are probably ⅔'s of the way of being completed, and I know that when this renovation is done, we will be very happy with the outcome. So, with that being said, I will be back on Houzz to change my 4 star to a 5 star. If your in the market right now and can't decide on a replicable GC, Van Selow Design is someone you can count on.

I had a small bathroom remodeling done. The outcome was fantastic. Much better then I had hoped for and my ideas had been rather difficult, I wanted everything custom made with live wood. We contracted with Van Selow Design and Build to renovate our vintage 1962 master bedroom and bath late last year after seeing the beautiful work Suzanne did on a kitchen remodel for our niece. From start to finish which ended in the Spring, we found Suzanne and her team to be very professional, friendly, knowledgeable and eager to please. As with any home renovation, problems came up. They were always available to answer our call and take care of problems promptly no matter what time of day. Suzanne has a list of professional contractors she uses and only uses the best. She is serious about demanding top notch work, respect and security from the workers. Work Is completed and inspected by Suzanne and will be redone if it doesn’t meet her approval. Our job was a major rebuild consisting of knocking out walls, removing a small bathroom previously in bedroom, removing 3 closets, enlarging an existing bath , moving plumbing, redoing all electric, air conditioning, plumbing, building new walls, new framing, drywall, raising and leveling bedroom floor, removing and relocating a window and much more. We ended up with a beautiful larger master bath with walk in shower, garden tub, and double sink vanity. A nice sized linen closet was added to bath and a separate toilet room with pocket door. Double glass pocket doors open to the bathroom. Our bedroom is more open, bright and spacious without large cement arches that were removed . A smaller bedroom was gutted and transformed into a spacious closet room with custom shelving with plenty of space for all of our clothes, shoes, etc. Van Selow completely finishes your space with final paint of your choice, and touches up any areas that were marked up during construction. We highly recommend Van Selow Design and Build.

Susanne completed a major renovation on our home and did a phenomenal job in all aspects of this particular job. She was very professional and so was her contractors. She is so meticulous in her work. I would recommend her anytime.

We met with three contractors to discuss a garage addition and interior remodeling prior to Susanne and felt discouraged that adding a garage would even be possible given the zoning restrictions and setback requirements. Enter Van Selow Design Build. First of all, Susanne was the only contractor we met that that had done preliminary research about our property and had a folder with notes. She was the only contractor that seemed confident that a garage could be added and advised us of which building codes would affect the design options. She listened to the things we're looking to accomplish and gave us several ideas on what could be done, unlike the contractors we'd met before. She even had options on adding space to a tiny, worn down looking bathroom that wouldn't entail a major tearing down of walls. We thought the most we could do with that space was to paint it and update the materials. (It turned out beautiful!) Hiring her firm was a no-brainer. From the onset, we were told what to expect and updated what would be happening on a weekly basis. Never once, did we feel like we couldn't get a hold of Susanne or her team. Whenever an issue came up, Susanne and her team responded quickly or was already proactively finding a solution and kept us informed on all happenings. Doing any sort of renovation work has its moments of frustration. Things take longer than you expected or there are surprises (especially with older homes) but we always felt confident that Susanne would make things right and ensure the work was done to a certain standard, even if it meant having a sub-contractor redo their work or replacing them all together. The feeling of confidence, the commitment to customer service and communication are some of the reasons we're thankful we had Van Selow Design Build leading our project.

We've been working with Susanne for several years on multiple projects. We started out small with a tiny guest bathroom remodel ... which led to redoing the master bathroom in a condo that we owned. When it came time to sell the condo and purchase a home, we took Susanne along with us to help narrow down our choices based on what we needed to do to make the home our own. Susanne held our hands throughout the multiphase project which culminated in the home of our dreams. From the start, she sat us down so we all understood the scope of our project, picking out the quality of materials so that we could manage our budget. She went along with us to visit vendors to pick out plumbing, cabinets, doors, appliances, floors and wall coverings. If we picked out something that was outside of our budget, she pointed us to alternatives to reign it back in. Given the scope of our project, Susanne had to deal with a variety of subcontractors and it was never a question of who was the boss. If things weren't going in the right direction, she was not afraid to lower the hammer and even replace a sub if she wasn't satisfied with their response. By their nature, these types of projects have their ups and downs. Over the years, we have dealt with multiple contractors across the country on major home remodels. I put VanSelow Design Build on the top of the list. Susanne is respectful, professional and tenacious. She is never afraid to go to bat for her client. If I were to embark on another remodel, I would not hesitate to give Susanne a call.

After researching online reviews, we hired Van Selow Design Build to redesign and remodel our master bedroom / bath and to rework some parts of our garage and perform minor repairs to another bedroom in August 2017. Unfortunately, our project did not go at all like what we saw in the online reviews. We were extremely disappointed with the design portion of the service, and in many cases the quality of materials used, the lack of supervision, the quality of workmanship, and in the responses to our concerns received from Van Selow Design Build. Prior to starting work, we had already laid out the rough sketches for the new floor plan so the initial drawing and permitting the job for construction was straightforward. However the “design phase” of the job was unorganized, and consisted of being directed to various suppliers around town to seek their advice on material selections. We found it extremely difficult to make choices for materials ranging from doors, cabinets, tile, flooring, trim, and paint colors without some coherent direction from an experienced design professional. We relied on online photos for many of our decisions and felt like we were not making sensible selections, even though we had an idea for the styles we preferred from looking at photos. The “select as you go” design approach, and the feeling of making incorrect material selections, created many delays in our project. We found it uncomfortable and exhausting. Due to issues with his job performance, our project supervisor was fired within a few weeks of the start of our project, and the owner placed the office manager to “supervise” our job while finding a replacement. This required us to be on the job to direct the trades as they arrived for their jobs each day. This caused additional delays and many hours of missed work for us. This, along with the lack of design assistance, and other on the job problems, delayed our project completion. Once a new supervisor was hired, we found him to be hurried and stretched thin with our job due to the demands of other jobs. This led to further tensions, delays and performance issues. See photos. Throughout the job, there were several problems. At the onset of the job, baseboard was installed incorrectly by painting crews and had to be removed and re-installed by a trim carpenter, inferior grade framing lumber was delivered and installed, even though it was admitted that the material was wrong. There was damage to an appliance that was not reported, a damaged gutter that was not reported, incorrect removal of vent stacks which left our home vulnerable to roof leaks that we had to get onto our roof to repair prior to an approaching hurricane, plumbing drains that were left unfinished which posed a hazard of methane gas leaking into our home, damaged wiring in a new electrical panel that had to be repaired, a missing ground connection on the new washing machine circuit that had to be repaired, our shop vacuums were used and not cleaned which ruined the filters, the knockout in shower drain was left in the p-trap, recess can lights were not properly secured, a rusty dump trailer left rust stains on our paver driveway which we had to cover with plastic to prevent further staining, and poor finish work on the stairs for which we had to hire another company to tear out and redo . To prevent delays and further issues on the job, holes from old plumbing that were left unfinished in our concrete garage floor were filled in by us in order to make the area ready for the trades to arrive the following work day. The portable toilet was removed from our property prior to job completion, and we were told that the job had run over the estimated time of completion and the toilet was an unnecessary expense, even though more time remained before the sub-contractors would be finished. On at least two occasions during the project, the permits were physically removed from our property and we were unsure if they would finish our project. The job was finally completed in April 2018. We have worked on similar large remodeling projects with other design / build firms in the past and have never run into so many issues. We understand that with any remodeling project of this size, there will be delays and unforeseen problems, but we also feel that the majority of the above problems occurred primarily due to the management style of Van Selow Design Build on our project, and therefore cannot recommend them.

We had a block, load bearing wall and fireplace with a big chimney removed to open up our space. Susanne Van Selow managed the complete project including new floor, ceiling, kitchen, and bathroom along with taking down the wall. We moved out for 3 months and the work was completed in a little over 4 months. Susanne was very responsive during the entire process, and on top of all of the work. The project did go over budget a few thousand dollars, because we added some extras and had some unexpected work, and we were always given the update by Susanne. She was a pleasure to work with, and the kitchen designer she uses, Meg also did a great job. They had lots of good ideas and we are thrilled with the finished project!

We chose Van Selow Design build to renovate our kitchen. Susanne, the owner, is fantastic to work with and extremely knowledgable about construction and renovations. It was a pleasure to work with Susanne and her team. They made the process of conducting a kitchen renovation as seamless as possible. Susanne worked with our budget and had great recommendations to ensure well made and quality products would be utilized in our kitchen remodel. She understood the type of design we were interested in and communicated thoroughly the ins and outs of renovating a kitchen from beginning to the end. Jenna, her assistant contacted us throughout the process and made adjustments as needed when discussing the kitchen design plan. She worked flawlessly with Susanne and their other team members. Her cabinet designer, Megan, had many suggestions to improve on kitchen work areas so that the cabinets made sense for what we were looking for and needed. She was intuitive in design aspects of cabinetry and counters that the homeowner may not have thought of and identified what worked best within our budget. Ariel, her site manager continuously came in to view the progress of the kitchen renovation and worked closely with differing tradesmen at each stage of the process. He communicated thoroughly with us at each stage of the renovation so that we had a clear picture of what was to be completed or was the next phase. From beginning of the project to the end I have been impressed with the professionalism of Susanne and her team. Her team worked efficiently and kept our home clean. Each day they cleaned up the site and kept it as minimally invasive as possible while we lived in a construction zone. I am overjoyed with the look of our kitchen as well as the quality of work that was completed. It is beautiful and functions well. I know that every step was taken to make sure everything was done properly. The quality of craftsmanship and work was superb.

I hired Susanne and her team to renovate my newly purchased 1973 home (that was still living in 1973). The job involved a complete kitchen renovation (including knocking down walls), two complete bathroom makeovers, floors throughout, paint and trim throughout, new bedroom/bathroom/exterior doors, and a new pool cage with a roofed lanai. I had found a gem of a house, but Susanne's team turned it into my dream home. Their ability to keep things on schedule was very impressive, and materials shopping with Jenna was a joy.

We hired Susanne for our large kitchen, powder room, laundry, and pantry remodel. We have been very impressed with the professionalism of not only Susanne's employees but of her sub-contractors as well. The workers have been there everyday, working full days! This is something we have never experienced before, and we have done a lot of remodeling over the years. The project has been on time, on schedule and within budget. We asked for a few change requests along the way and she has been very accommodating. We would definitely recommend her to others. If you want someone you can trust and has your best interests at heart, Susanne is the right contractor for you.

Van Selow Design renovated our master bath and we are very happy with the finished product. Susanne Van Selow is not only a designer, but also a general contractor with vast knowledge of city/county codes & regulations, and a lot of experience, so I knew the job would be done to the highest of standards. Susanne and her assistant Jenna were prompt in answering all of my questions and educated me when necessary so I could make good project decisions. They arrived on time for all appointments, which was very important to me as in the past I had spent hours waiting for contractors who were late or didn't bother to show up at all. I first met with Susanne about remodeling my kitchen, and while she met with us, we discussed possibly doing our bathroom as well. We liked Susanne's new design of the bathroom SO MUCH that we decided it was worth it to ultimately remodel both the kitchen and the bathroom and WOW! We could not be happier with the results! Not only was Susanne extremely friendly throughout the design process, but throughout the entire project we received nothing but the greatest customer service. She was timely, on budget, and presented us with a gorgeous kitchen and bathroom! I cannot stress enough how fantastic the entire process was; talk about great quality! Also, we have worked with other contractors in the past who left our house a mess every night. This did not happen even once with Van Selow. This is the first time I have had a stress-free project.
