“Architect Deepak Bakshi had the job of creating a home with Vastu principles, that would fit in aesthetically with the Iowa countryside, would be as close as possible to meeting the requirements of a Passive House to buffer the seasonal temperature and humidity extremes of this climate and meet our limited budget constraints.
The house is not yet finished, but even in its raw state feels wonderful. My wife describes it best:
"Last autumn, when our basement was finally constructed, I was astonished when I walked into it for the first time. The energy felt very silent and peaceful and standing in the brahmasthan I suddenly felt as if I was standing in the center of the cosmos, connected to every particle of the universe by rays of conscious light that streamed out from me in every direction. It was a very secure and natural feeling. And also a feeling of responsibility. As if, when I am living in this house all of my actions will influence the whole of the universe so I wish to be sure that I live a life that is truly worth living and that the influences I create will be a benefit to evolution everywhere.
The house construction process has clearly been moving forward on its own timetable and we were not able to create the structure for the floors above the basement until this autumn, a year later. But it has been worth the wait. The energy in the upper part of the house is so soft and sweet and balanced. It just makes the heart feel so happy and contented to be in that space. I look around and even though the walls are still the raw surfaces of the SIPs and the site looks like a construction zone with dirt and exposed beams and green plastic over the windows, everything seems to be so harmonious and in perfect pleasing proportions."
Deepak met or exceeded deadlines, worked diligently with contractors and suppliers and devoted extra research to what will be Iowa's first Vastu Design Passive House.”
