About Us

Relocated from Metro DC to Charlotte, NC in 2015, Gracious Living by Design specializes in full-scale interior design projects and offers a range of services and custom home furnishings. Owner and Principal Designer, Anna Kucera is a graduate of The George Washington University’s Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design program. Her background in the luxury hotel industry and in event management along with her interior design experience offers a unique perspective from her peers in the design profession. In addition to traditional interior design services, Anna’s project management skills and knowledge of luxury lifestyle clientele allow her to seamlessly shepherd a project’s vision from initial concept through completion with the utmost level of service. At Gracious Living by Design, we create interiors that encourage an inspired lifestyle by enhancing what clients love about their home, while guiding them to experience their surroundings in a new way. We design with the belief that one’s home should serve as both a personal haven and a warm welcome to family and friends. The Gracious Living by Design aesthetic is a sophisticated blend of old and new. We combine classic style with contemporary vision revealing an atmosphere that reflects your life.

Anna helped me redecorate an outdated small living room. I was a bit overwhelmed because I did not know exactly the look to pursue. Anna presented good choices in a short period of time. End result was excellent- a change for the better!

I am absolutely thrilled with my new Office /Piano Room. A soft and sophisticated new paint color, new area rug, ideal arrangement of existing furniture, and an intentional selection of new accessories, which perfectly complement the traditional/ chinoiserie chic feel of the room, has resulted in my dream work space. Anna designed the room to reflect both my personal style and my need for functionality, all while keeping it aligned with the decor and feel of the rest of my home. To top it off, she found the perfect Asian inspired mirror and complimentary paint shade for my powder room.

Working with Anna was not only fun, but completely stress-free. We moved last summer into a house that had a very large living room space--I wanted the room to feel comfortable, inviting and cozy, but could not even begin to envision how to lay out the furniture. Anna measured the space before we moved, and by the time we were in the house, I had a blueprint of where our furniture could go. Anna saw the space broken into two different seating areas, something I never would have come up with on my own, and was wonderful with helping me pick fabrics and furniture for the space. I needed everything from rugs to light fixtures, and Anna was so helpful finding these pieces. As of right now, we have the major seating pieces needed to make the home livable, but what's best is that thanks to Anna, I have the plans in places for what is next as my funds come in for accent pieces.

Was nothing but pleased with the work Anna provided. I was on a limited budget, so hired her by the hour to help me decorate and plan the space in my new home. She helped me with everything from where to place wall hangings and furniture, to picking out new furniture and fabrics. She listened to what I was wanting and helped get my home to where I'd hoped! I really liked how she used many of my existing pieces, rather than recommending all new. Highly recommend!

When we bought a new house in South Carolina I turned to Anna for help....long distance! From room measurements and iphone pictures, Anna helped me to select paint colors for the open floor plan and designed furniture placement in a difficult family room. She selected beautiful fabrics for a sofa and two swivel chairs from her Custom Private Label Furniture Collection. From long distance deadlines were met and delivery was arranged. Anna has a great eye for color, texture, and pattern mixtures. I love the way everything came together and look forward to working with Anna again, soon. I highly recommend Anna.

Anna Kucera helped me with several rooms during a renovation. Anna designed window treatments, selected paint colors, wallpaper, helped with fabrics for upholstery and made carpet selections. Anna designed a breakfast nook in a "problem" area that is now one of my favorite places. Anna's incredibly creative, yet she was responsive to my own tastes. Work was completed as promised and Anna was a genius at keeping within our budget . I adore working with Anna! Besides her obvious talent, her enthusiasm and integrity are an added bonus. I absolutely recommend Anna!
