Westside Craftsman

Fun, whimsy and practicality informed the landscaping goals for this craftsman home on the Westside of Santa Cruz. My client loves plants and knows quite a bit about gardening, so she wanted some unusual and rare plants as well as edibles - artichoke, culinary oregano, rosemary and other herbs - which we interspersed throughout front and back gardens for a unique textural effect. This property also has some deep shade under ancient redwood trees, where we created a lush shade garden. In the back garden, we designed raised beds on a diagonal axis for interest and maximum sun exposure. Beauty and practicality can exist together.
