West London Family Garden

This classic London garden was a long rectangle of lawn surrounded by beds and didn't offer the family the multiple living zones they now required. The brief was to create a journey through the long garden to include a slightly obscured, dedicated play zone to house the large table tennis table which could also become a seating/hang out area for the owners early teen children. A new, central lawn patio area for bbq's and seating surrounded by planting, plus screening at the end of the garden for the family's 3 chickens and their coop. Reclaimed London bricks were used throughout to create the walls and edge the beds. Painted walls and fences brought harmony to the space and set off the planting, from sun loving vibrant flowers to lush greens in the shade. The curved wall created a seating perch as well as cocooning the patio area. Extra large pavers were set into the gravel base interspersed with creeping plants. Behind the wall the exuberant planting gave height and drama and surrounded the space with pollinators. Gravel and paving underfoot defined the multiple zones throughout the garden and the meandering path allowed the very end of the garden to be obscured, hiding the chickens from initial site but giving them a dedicated area to thrive in.
