Wall of Glass – A bespoke frameless shower enclosure in Thursley, Surrey

The homeowner had converted one of his barns into guest accommodation. He wanted to create an ensuite bath and shower room, within the bedroom, with a real ‘wow’ factor and chose Showerpower to turn his idea into a striking reality! The brief was to design and construct a translucent ‘wall of glass’ the complete width of the barn, concealing the hot water tank at one side and a WC on the opposite side with, in the centre, a shower enclosure with sliding doors. The water tank and WC had to be easily accessible but hidden from view. The client also specified that the design should be minimal and without metal frames. o achieve the brief we built two cubicles in obscure glass, one surrounding the water tank and the other around the WC, with a sliding shower enclosure between them in crystal clear, low-iron glass. Difficulties experienced were minimal and the element we were most pleased with was the transition from opaque to clear glass on the panels across the front elevation. An error here would have resulted in a clumsy finish but, thanks to the accuracy of the planning, design and installation, the result is stunning. The structure is self-supporting so no additional bracing bars were required, thus maintaining the highly desirable frameless look of this unique project.
