Contemporary Shaker Kitchen

This contemporary shaker kitchen project was a complete refurbishment of an existing family room living space in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. For this project our client was looking for a complete redesign of their existing kitchen family room. The existing layout had very little storage and was located in the darkest part of the house. Our client was flexible on the kitchen position and open to structural work to achieve their goal of a modern, bright timeless shaker kitchen that worked for their grown family and linked more directly with the dining space. To achieve the best result possible we relocated the kitchen to the back of the property, relocating the television area to the darker part of the plan. This involved removing a 2m section of wall and creating a new opening in which to position the large feature island. The island became the focus of the space with the Mercury Range/cooking area, sink area and food storage area anchored to it. A food preparation sink was included within the island to give added functionality. The brief for the kitchen aesthetic was to create a kitchen with a timeless feel, something that would not date but did not feel too traditional. It needed to feel warm and suitable for a family home. To achieve this we used a paired back shaker design with simple frame details and warm oak elements teamed with the hand painted furniture. Classic dark granite work surfaces completed the look along with statement glass splashbacks to add a little colour and fun.
