Beechwood, Stirlingshire Extension - Before

The clients had moved into their dream home. The house is essentially a mansion with huge grand spaces and lots of bedrooms For some strange reason the kitchen seemed to have been housed in a small, cold, flat roof timber clad building which had at one point replaced a beautiful orangery which sat up on a sandstone plinth. It was very odd that such a beautiful and grand house should have such small and incongruous kitchen accommodation and this was the overriding theme of our brief. Our aim was to design new kitchen accommodation for the house which would look like it was really meant to be there. we wanted to create a large open plan kitchen dining space which would clean and modern internally with loads of natural light. The kitchen needed to be able to open out on to a raised terrace. For this we re-used the existing stone plinth facing and built up from this to form a terrace with a level finish with the internal floor.
