BDAA Awards 2017 - New residential buildings up to 250 sqm and under $2,000

The design solution was to design three traditional looking sheds and connect them all together. Each shed would be individually built using 200 x 200mm iron-bark posts and 200 x 75 Iron-bark rails and have a traditional 35 degree galvanized iron roof. The areas connecting the sheds are wide enough to form their own spaces suitable for the owner’s art and furniture. The external walls are colorbond corrugated steel cladding. The excellent orientation of the block to North meant that winter warming is maximized and the same orientation plus ideal breezeways make summer cooling equally ideal. For entertaining, all the North decks and living areas open onto each other to make a sizable and interestingly varied entertaining area. As for aesthetics, the home sits very well in amongst its more traditional neighbours, displaying a well-considered variation on the traditional Australian shed.
