This Trending Now story features the most-saved powder room photos uploaded to Houzz since Jan. 1, 2019.
Powder rooms are a great spot for daring design. That’s because the door is usually closed and the space is small and intimate, so the style can diverge from the style of the rest of the home. In 2019, Houzz users were all-in when it came to intrepid approaches to powder rooms. Dark walls, patterned tile, natural wood vanities and counters, warm metallic finishes, vessel sinks and bold wallcoverings show up repeatedly in this countdown of the top ten powder room photos of the year.

9. Patterns and Geometric Tile Mix
Patterned cement floor tiles like those seen in this powder room by Extreme Developers continued to be popular with Houzz users in 2019. Complementing them here are hexagonal tiles in charcoal gray, which also add depth and a modern touch to the vanity wall. And, much like the previous powder room, wood and metal accents warm up the room.

8. A Fresh Transitional Mix
Here Shadow Creek Homes gave traditional shiplap a more modern look by painting it black. The clean lines of the countertop, mirror and even the P-trap plumbing below the sink bring in a modern feel, while the patterned encaustic cement tile floor adds a more traditional touch. The result is a pleasing transitional mix of styles.

7. Elegant and Kid-Friendly
KasaMia Interiors lightened things up in this elegant powder room, but don’t let the refined palette fool you. Patricia Calasich designed it to stand up to young children. She specified wainscoting with a semigloss paint that won’t show little handprints. And the quartz countertop has a deceptively elegant look — it is durable enough to stand up to lots of heavy use.

6. Calm and Contemporary
Insignia Design Group gave this Miami powder room a calming Zen vibe by using organic tones, patterns and textures. The texture of the wallcovering was inspired by stingray skin, while the countertop has a subtle stone veining pattern. A large mirror reflects the light, while a glass vessel sink adds an ethereal touch.

5. Bold Patterned Walls
Jennifer Horstman of Lenox House Design didn’t let the tight dimensions of this 3-by-6-foot powder room deter her from using a wallcovering with a large-scale bold pattern on all the walls. The volcanic stone vessel sink and clean round mirror throw a few well-placed curves at all of the strong diagonal lines.

4. Warm Modern Farmhouse
This bathroom by CarsonSpeer Builders is a fresh take on modern farmhouse style. The traditional mirror, woven Roman shade and sconces soften the strict lines of the shiplap walls, vessel sink and chunky wood countertop.

3. Animal Instincts
Designer Paige Pierce was tasked with delivering a playful powder room. Thanks to an eye-catching blue tiger-print wallpaper from Clarence House, she provided the homeowners with a design that delights and surprises all who enter. Meanwhile, the classic vanity, marble countertop and oil-rubbed-bronze fixtures suit the home’s 1930s Tudor-style architecture.

2. Soothing Gray
Here designer Reisa Pollard of Beyond Beige Interior Design shows just how deep and dramatic gray can go. The ombre wallpaper gets lighter from floor to ceiling, and along with the tall beveled mirror, emphasizes the ceiling’s lofty height. The floating vanity looks as though it was cleanly carved from one big hunk of stone. The sconces resemble magical hanging, glowing geodes. Brushed-gold fixtures stand out against the gray backdrop.

1. Fresh Modern Farmhouse
Patterned floor tile, shiplap walls and a furniture-like vanity in mint green give this powder room by Kimberlee Marie Interiors scads of modern farmhouse charm. One element seen here that none of the other powder room photos show is a traditional bridge faucet. Usually seen in kitchens, it’s a distinctive detail for a bathroom. Check out the way its height rises up past the bottom of the mirror. The overlap is one of those little things that make a room more interesting and appealing.

Slim black tiles in a chevron pattern grab attention in this powder room by Michaelson Homes. A live-edge wooden vanity shelf and brass accents provide warm contrast to the dark accent wall. Wall-mounted countertops or ledges rather than traditional vanities were prominent among the most popular powder room photos in 2019. This option saves physical and visual space and shows off more of another popular feature: an accent wall.
