When looking to make changes in our homes' decor, we often think of making improvements on a larger scale. I'm always excited about opportunities for a decorating overhaul, but what also excites me is the look on clients' faces when they realize that little changes make all the difference.
We hear "design is in the details" so much it seems cliche, but this ideabook proves it is an everlasting truth. Add a little here, subtract a little there, and you find the right balance of style that satisfies your need for change. Here are a few examples.
We hear "design is in the details" so much it seems cliche, but this ideabook proves it is an everlasting truth. Add a little here, subtract a little there, and you find the right balance of style that satisfies your need for change. Here are a few examples.
1. Clear off the mantel. If your mantel is consumed with knicknacks, clear it and begin with a fresh start. Search your home for a piece of art that makes a statement and assign it as your new focal point. Keep secondary accents to a minimum.
3. Accent a wall. Dramatically enhance your space by coating an accent wall in rich color! Maintain your home's color continuity by choosing a color for the wall that also exists somewhere (via accents or wall color) in the neighboring room.
4. Accentuate the positive. If your vanity is fashioned from gorgeous hardwood, adorn it with equally gorgeous accessories. Armed with a screwdriver and beautiful hardware, you are 20 minutes away from a mini makeover.
6. Bring in some color. Invigorate a restful palette with colorful accessories. When using a neutral palette as a base, it is easy to bring in fun accents like this hot pink coverlet, lamp, and mirror. Experiment by adding more or less color until you find your perfect balance.
8. Dress up the hall. Add a series of light fixtures down a long hallway. The flush-mounted pendants, in conjunction with the molding on the ceiling, leads you down the hall without a verbal invitation.
