Post-KonMari: How to Organize Your Cleaning Supplies
Make your products and tools easy to access so cleanup will be less of a chore
Once you’ve decluttered below the sink and anywhere else you store cleaning supplies, it’s time to get organized. When your cleaning products and tools are neatly organized, everyday cleanup tasks are easier and more efficient. But with so many organizing products to choose from, it can be hard to know which are worth buying and which will end up gathering dust (or worse: making your space more cluttered).
To help you bring order to this small but hardworking zone, we’ll look at the storage and organizing tools that are really crucial in maintaining a tidy space, plus a few optional nice-to-have extras.

Adjustable-height shelves. Giving extra containers of cleaning products and tools their own dedicated shelves (separate from your everyday cleaning supplies) will help reduce clutter under the sink, and make it easier to find what you need. Make the most of cabinet space with adjustable shelving that you can tailor to fit tall bottles and short stacks of cleaning necessities.
Hooks or wall rack for long-handled tools. Opening a closet only to have long-handled tools like mops and brooms topple out is one of life’s little annoyances that you do not have to put up with. Install a row of hooks or (better yet) a wall-mounted rack designed for this purpose, and clip in your tools. No more toppling brooms!
Nice-to-Have Additions
Cabinet door organizers. Make the most of your below-sink area with the addition of slim cabinet door organizers. These mini-shelves are perfect for storing small, frequently accessed items like sponges, scrub brushes and rubber gloves.

Pullout shelves. Part of what makes the below-sink zone such a mess is its depth; no wonder things get all jumbled up when you can’t even see what’s in there! Install gliding shelves inside your cabinet, and when you need to reach something way at the back all you have to do is pull out the shelf.
Labeled bins. If your cleaning supplies are out of control even after decluttering, you may need a bit more structure. Clear, labeled bins sorted by task (floors, windows, etc.) can help you see at a glance which set of products you need. Pair these with pullout shelves for a supremely organized cleanup zone.
Putting it all together. Start small with just the few organizing tools you know you really need, and add more only if you can see a clear purpose for having them. You’ll know your organizing has been a success when it’s quick and easy to find exactly the tools and products you need. Can you reach under your sink without cringing now? If so, consider that a total win.
