Pop Culture Watch: Get a Good Rap With Thrift Store Scores
Eight rooms that rock secondhand finds, in an ideabook inspired by rappers taking YouTube by storm
The YouTube video Thrift Shop by Ryan Lewis and Macklemore has more than 176,000,000 views to date, making it one of the most watched videos of all time (profanity alert: It's not for sensitive ears). The two have replaced pricey labels and bling with their thrifted finds, rocking everything from Batman footie pajamas to old Velcro sneakers spray painted white.
Thrifty Houzzers may have different outfits, but they apply the same philosophy to shopping for their homes that Macklemore uses when shopping for his duds, frequenting the very same stores — Value Village, anyone? Here's how they are stunting and flossing and saving their money around the house.

He's gonna wear your grandpa's clothes and look incredible. Macklemore takes a run through several hot spots for finding buried vintage treasures, including the Goodwill, Value Village Capitol Hill, Red Light Vintage and the Fremont Vintage Mall.
A quick scan shows lots of goodies for the crib as well: The midcentury chair has Eiffel legs; there could be a kitschy book on that shelf for the coffee table, bathroom or guest room; and vintage cameras and globes are much sought-after thrifted items. However, I'm not so sure how many people could rock Batman footie pajamas paired with a Davy Crockett hat.
After taking a peek at the video's fly thrift shop fashions, it was easy to poke around Houzz and find slick original thrift shop home decor. For example, Daniel Thomas and Ariel Arrow of Duchess Clothier painstakingly composed thrift store mirrors to form this stunning art installation.

The bloggers at Keep Smiling Home outfitted this inviting guest room with thrift shop finds. The bed frame was $10, the sheets were $4, the lamp was $10 and the painting was $12. They spray painted the bed and the floor lamp, just like Macklemore spray painted his retro Velcro sneakers.
For homeowner Beatriz Machias, thrifting is a social sport; she loves tweeting finds to a circle of bargain-hunting Twitter friends.
After looking for a dining room buffet for quite some time, she came across this golden walnut midcentury Heritage Henredon dresser at a thrift shop for $50; her 50-percent-off coupon let her score it for $25. More thrifted finds include the Dansk pieces and the textile art.

When decorator Brian Patrick Flynn wanted to spiff up his breakfast table, he rounded up five different thrift and garage sale chairs, stripped them, and gave them a glossy red paint job and matching upholstery.

Lynda Quintero-Davids of Focal Point Styling loves a great thrift score. She found this cabinet at a thrift shop in Florida for $30 and refinished it herself. The glass lamps and the pedestal bowl are also thrifted treasures.
Homeowner Peggy Aronson appreciates a good thrift find, especially when the profits go to one of her favorite causes, The Humane Society. Along with many other pieces in her home, she found this dining table at The Humane Society Thrift Store in Bend, Oregon.

For this enviable study, blogger Bonnie Forkner of Going Home to Roost scored the table and shelves at a thrift store, then gussied up the space with wallpaper from Ikea, her well-organized supplies and a dress form.
