Hot New Greens for Fall Decorating
Make your home ultrahappy with ultramarine or cheery with chartreuse, using the popular colors on walls, furniture or accessories this fall
Several shades of green have popped up in the hottest colors for fall. One interesting green showing up on the runways is a cross between pine green and army green — a dark green with some brown in it. And the folks at Pantone, a company that creates color management systems for designers, are touting two greens for fall: Ultramarine Green (a dark jade) and Bright Chartreuse.

This season's popular greens, clockwise from top left: a vibrant chartreuse, Nervy Hue SW6917 from Sherwin-Williams; an army/evergreen color, Woodland Park KM3352-5 from Kelly-Moore; a more subdued chartreuse, Adobe Sun 082-5 from Mythic Paint; and a hue similar to Pantone's Ultramarine Green, Ming Jade 2043-20 from Benjamin Moore.
Bright Greens
Chartreuse plays well with light neutrals such as the whites, grays and wood tones shown here in this gorgeous, modern kitchen and dining room. As a bonus, colorful finish materials — such as backsplash tile — and bold-hued furniture and accessories can pick up the slack when you lack wall space for artwork.

One of my favorite ways to use color in a home is to paint the insides of wall niches. If you prefer more neutral interiors, you could keep the wall color white, gray or beige and then inject a bit of bold color just inside the niche for a fun little pop.
Include a vibrant green hue in your bathroom for a fun, youthful vibe — perfect for the kids' bathroom or a powder room in a modern home. This is one of my favorite colors, but for those worried about growing tired of such a bright hue on a vanity, consider adding the color via easily changed out accessories.
If chartreuse green is too vibrant for your interiors, try finding ways to use it outside. The lighter, brighter, and more open the space is, the less intense the chartreuse will appear.
Here, chartreuse is used to highlight interesting exterior architectural elements. It's also a great color for a front door or window trim. To keep the look somewhat subtle, pair it with neutral hues, such as the steely blue and wood tones here. Use the more vibrant colors on items you want to really stand out, and use the darker, more neutral hues for anything you prefer to blend into the background.
Chartreuse also works well as a background color for your garden. It pairs nicely with the cooler greens in your landscape and can help soften hardscaping, such as this concrete wall.
Blue-Greens
Jade green creates a soothing, sophisticated vibe in a bathroom. This cool blue-green hue evokes a spa far from home and close to the water — the ultimate destressing color.

Ultramarine green works with traditional, contemporary and all design styles in between. This kitchen has a nice balance of neutral and bold colors.
Brown-Greens
The wall color here, in this season's warm pine hue, is a handsome take on neutral green. The rich color makes this space ready to host fall gatherings.

Army green — a warm green with lots of brown in it — reads as a neutral, perfect for the exterior of a house.
Army green can also work well on your exterior trim. This green color works nicely with the wood shingles, but you could also pair it with brick, stone or other neutral-hued siding. It is a rather dark hue, so if you want contrast between the siding and trim colors, choose a lighter shade for the siding.
Green Accessories
You don't need to paint your walls a vibrant hue to get a nice dose of color in a room. Instead, collect and display decorative accessories in your favorite hue. They're much easier and more affordable to change out than wall paint or furniture.

Nucha Vase
If you like chartreuse but can't invest a lot of time or money to bring it into your home, choose one of the fantastic, well-priced accessories available in the popular color, such as this vase from CB2.
Bernhard Chair, Chrome Plated, Kavat Green-Yellow
The more affordable an item is, the more I tend to be adventurous with color. These chartreuse chairs from Ikea are a relatively inexpensive way to inject fun color into a casual dining space.
Julius Grass Twin Sleeper Sofa
When investing in furniture, try to find pieces that can do double duty, like this combo loveseat/twin sleeper in fashionable chartreuse.
Texas Spinning Stool
I can see this charming stool working in a variety of interiors — from a traditional antique-filled home to an industrial loft space.
Picture Frames
I love the organic, asymmetrical form of these vases and that they have a nice patinated finish in our featured colors.
Mig Retro Steel Pendant Light
Don't overlook lighting as a way to introduce an interesting shape or form, as well as color, into your home. This cool retro pendant would look fabulous strung up in a set of two or three over a kitchen island.
