Halloween Un-decorating: Orange, Candles and Ghostly White
See how to get into the Halloween decorating spirit without compromising design
Halloween kicks off the holiday season, which means gathering decorating ideas for each one is in full effect. For a holiday like Halloween, the entry is arguably the most important place to decorate. Spooky jack-o-lanterns, ghosts or spider webs on exterior doors invite trick-or-treaters, while interior entries continue the theme and make everyone smile upon walking into a home. One of the challenges, for me, is finding beautiful, bold statement pieces for holiday vignettes without losing sight of the fun aspect.

Do you love this? I love this. So many layers to this lovely vignette! The curtains are phenomenal, and the little shots of turquoise, white, yellow and green make the designs presentable regardless of the season, but that lamp base makes for an upscale, modern Halloween design scheme.
This gorgeous Victorian home already screams Halloween, what with the turrets, wrap-around porch and architectural details, but the orange globes make a simple yet strong festive statement. I would definitely want to get a closer look.
Le Versha Chair, Orange
Drop a few of these on your front porch and call it a Halloween day (or night?)
Orange and White Ceramic Garden Stool
Put this garden stool next to those chairs (above) and sit outside waiting for trick-or-treaters, perhaps with an adult "treat" of your own in hand!
Decorating for Halloween can be subtle: orange accents often do the trick. And you can take a seasonal approach. Perhaps this zebra-patterned rug, tray and twigs (in the background) are brought out each fall. Winter, spring and summer may yield completely different runners/rugs, console accessories and florals — and none of it has to be exhorbitantly expensive!
Papier-Mâché Animal Sculptures
If you're not sold on completely submitting your house to Halloween decor, try a papier-mache sculpture, like these from West Elm. There's something ghostly about them, but they will work with decor well beyond the Halloween season.
This entry is sophisticated and beautiful while remaining inherently Halloween-ready all year.
This is not an entry, per se, but the idea of bringing in orange accessories and accents easily translates; add a Halloween flavor to any space — entries included.
The French country vibe of this entry is enhanced by this well-chosen composition of gourds and greenery. A vignette like this will easily take you from Halloween through Thanksgiving, when it's time trade fall décor for wintry whites and lights.
